I am new to the matte lip craze, it worked for Salt-N-Pepa in the 90’s but I was convinced that it just would not work for me. Lately though, one cannot not throw a cat without smacking someone in their trendy, matte pout and I wanted to know what all of the hype was about.
I finally placed a ColourPop order for a few shadows that I have been dying to try and also decided to order their Kitty Mini Kit that includes 5 miniature tubes of ultra matte lip color. I figure this way, I would have enough product to try out but not so much that I would feel bad about not using them if I did not love it. I had no idea what to expect, I assumed that the product would make my lips feel very dry and chapped but I was pleasantly surprised by the texture. It comes out of the tube looking and feeling just like a regular lip gloss and once applied, it dries into a beautiful matte finish that feels like you are wearing nothing at all. This is what shocked me the most, I feel that most lip gloss is too tacky and lipstick feels like whale blubber but you get extreme color saturation with this ultra matte without feeling weighed down. I could not believe how vibrant only a swipe was, but be careful, once it dries it isn’t budging. My instant faves were Glitter (berry), Last Dance (brick red) and Bianca (dusty rose). I found Be Merry to be just a touch pinker than I’d like and Times Square was exactly that 90’s rap video shade that just doesn’t suit me. I didn’t know that I would appreciate the matte lip as much as I do, it just looks sophisticated and is so much easier to apply than I had imagined.
Shout out to ColourPop for such gorgeous packaging and overall quality products – I am so delighted that I finally took the plunge!
