Set It, Don’t Sweat It

I will apologize in advance for pretty much every post until autumn starting with…’Now that summer is here…’ 🙂 Seriously though, the seasons changed over night – the tulips are open, the wind is hot and we actually had to turn the air on. Growing up summer meant ice tea, swimming in the river, running around barefoot, reading on the porch and just taking advantage of being a carefree kid. As an adult all 4 seasons are pretty much the same but some of that magic can be recaptured during the long summer nights and much anticipated weekends. In the heat I would prefer not to mess with makeup but still look put together – I mean, that isn’t so much to ask! So maybe I can’t go barefaced anymore but for 3 glorious months, I can get pretty darn close using a couple of old favourites.

To start I need a perfect base, I have ultra-oily skin with areas of large pores and I need a bullet proof primer to beat the heat. I love me some BB’s and the one tube that I depend on most during the summertime is Urban Decay’s Naked Skin Beauty Balm in light. The reason that I prefer this to some of my other BB’s is the matte factor, while others can make me look dewy I don’t need that effect in the humidity. This BB is also goof proof, while others have knocked this product for being more like a primer than anything else I think that this is something to love about it. It won’t give you a lot of colour but it is a cinch to apply and totally low maintenance. As with other products of this nature I appreciate the added skin benefits, nothing beats makeup that improves the condition of your skin even after you remove it. It keeps your skin protected from the sun, improves texture and boosts elasticity – this stuff is awesome. Last but not least, this balm is delightfully mint scented and is a refreshing way to start the day.

To finish, whether I follow my BB with a tinted moisturizer or serum I want something to keep everything in place. I still use a setting powder but when this just isn’t enough, I add a little extra insurance with a spritz of De-Slick. I have tried the entire range of UD setting sprays and I always go back to this one, this is the only one that not only sets my makeup but really does control oil and minimize pores. Also, this spray does not smell funky, irritate my face or cause breakouts. The only thing that I would change about this spray is the delivery method – I think a spray can would disperse it more evenly and prevent little droplets from coming out. Honestly though, who am I if that is my only complaint?

Both products are easy to travel with and touch up if things start to get ugly. These might just be summer favourites for me but I highly recommend as both are great quality and the results are awesome. Cheers to summer!

  1. Cheers to summer 🙂

I am on the hunt for a bb/tinted moisturizer and was about to buy the NARS one but the UD sounds great and I like the concealer…thanks for sharing.

I started my blog about a month ago and am still kind of new to the blogger world but I am loving to ‘meet’ so many inspiring people. I am blogging about the things I am passionate about such as beauty, health, fitness, my own personal fat loss journey and traveling.

I just posted about how I lost 60lbs and became stronger, healthier and more confident during my journey.

I would love for you to check it out and follow my blog if you are interested 🙂

I can’t wait to read about your thoughts on my posts!

    Have a great weekend.

    Aloha from Hawai’i
