Urban Decay has to be hands down one of my favourite brands, I love their edgy approach to beauty and am always keen to know what they have on the horizon.Their quality, packaging and overall presentation lacks nothing to be desired and when I don’t like something I am so disappointed. I have hinted at how unimpressed I have been with their new One and Done a hybrid complexion perfector that was released with their Summer 2016 line but thought I would elaborate.
I had no idea what a ‘complexion hybrid perfector’ was but I thought it sounded pretty close to a BB and I don’t think I have found a BB to date that I didn’t like. This hybrid claims to blur imperfections, instantly even skin tone and over time improve the overall appearance and texture of your skin. Too good to be true, possibly but I can attest to the long term results that I experienced using their BB and had high hopes for the One and Done. This hybrid is packed with complexion friendly ingredients, SPF 20 and it comes in a wider variety of shades (6 total) than the original BB – how could this be so wrong for me?! *sigh*
I will start with the good stuff, I actually really do like the soft-sided tube and pump combo. I don’t know why but I just feel like I am going to be able to squeeze every drop of product out of this tube and it fits perfectly in my bag. The shade is perfect for my complexion and it blends flawlessly, I wish that I could find a foundation that matched this well. It smells good, not like foundation and doesn’t cause the irritation that I sometimes experience with liquid foundations. The formula is incredibly lightweight, not tacky or sticky plus it kept me pretty matte. It is oil free, feels really dreamy on my skin and it doesn’t set in wrinkles. So many great things but alas…
What I don’t like about this product is that I don’t think it could ever be a ‘1 and done’ for me. I don’t have great skin but this product does not cover anything, the coverage was akin to a regular moisturizer, not even kidding. Maybe I am exaggerating but not by much. Also I could not imagine wearing this without a primer, unlike the BB it does nothing for my pore issues but it does stay on all day which is somewhat of a win. I tried to wear this product in tandem with concealer and the results were better but still not what I was hoping for. Now, many of my BB’s do not provide enough coverage to be worn on their own and I am OK with using them as primers but the only way I can wear this hybrid is with primer and foundation. Seems like a lot of leg work for something that is touted to provide the same coverage as a sheer foundation with the benefits of a primer.
For shade reference, this is the One and Done in light over my regular primer and no other makeup, so there’s that 😉
But here is the deal, I do think it adds a little something to my complexion during the day and it helps to keep my foundation flawless for the better part of 8 hours. I don’t think it is a bad product just definitely not what I was anticipating. I am going to continue using it and who knows, if the long term claims stack up then maybe I will need less coverage over time – I am skeptical but I blew 34 bucks on this stuff and I am staying optimistic 😉
If you are a flawless, fresh faced beauty – then check this stuff out. Or, if you just want to add another step to your base routine like I am apparently doing, then still check it out. I will post an update when I have finished the whole tube, stay tuned 🙂 As always, thanks for stopping by ❤
These are the long term claims and here is hoping:
• A significant improvement in radiance after 12 weeks of use.
• Significantly firmer-feeling skin after 12 weeks of use.
• Visibly smaller-looking pores after 8 weeks of use.
