OK, I don’t want to complain about the splendid weather but 72 degrees the first week of November?! And I just saw a mosquito! All of this glorious weather isn’t getting me prepped for the winter freeze, I am too comfortable! Ah well, still enjoying it while I can.
I ordered this library of eye shadows online from NYX Cosmetics almost 3 weeks ago and it just got here. I have never ordered from them before so no idea if this is the norm but I feel like that took a long time. When I saw the first few photos of these eye shadows, I immediately fell in love with the concept and totally unique presentation. The NYX Loves L.A. Library Set includes 10 eye shadows and 2 pressed pigments that are meant to represent 12 different neighborhoods that make L.A. so distinct. How cool is that?! Each shadow comes in its own little book and when you put them back together, they create a tableau of the city skyline – neat. The quality of the shadows is on par with what you get from NYX – they are easy to work with and offer plenty of pigment. A couple of the darker, shimmery shades get a little chunky but overall they wear really well. I apologize for the lack of swatches, I am not at my apartment this weekend and the lighting in this house is horrendous! I am including an image from their website above so that you can at least see the colours a bit better! Here is a peek at the books and their lovely contents, enjoy:
Abbot Kinney is definitely one of my favs, it is a cool tone grey with just a hint of shimmer.
Malibu is a shimmery cerulean blue, this is one of the shades that is harder to work with and gets a little chunky but if you can get it to work it looks stunning.
Beverly Hills is a little underwhelming, it is a muted gold shimmer that works as a nice highlight or base shade. It just doesn’t embody Beverly Hills for me though. It could be because I am envisioning Weezer’s Beverly Hills 😛
They nailed it with Santa Monica, it is a taupe matte – cool, totally chill, very Everclear. I am just realizing how many good punk songs of my youth are California based!
Laurel Canyon is another favourite, it is a purple shimmer but doesn’t have the fallout of the other shimmers.
I love the idea of Brentwood, an emerald shimmer but this is one of the worst for fall out and it is extremely difficult to work with.
West Hollywood is one of the pressed pigments, it is a hot pink – totally gorgeous, super pigmented.
Silverlake is a darker grey matte, it isn’t my favourite shade but I have found use for it.
The Valley is a plum shimmer, another favourite.
Pasadena is a perfect rose shimmer…another fav.
Downtown LA is a gritty, sparkly black that I thought would make a sultry liner but I’ve not been able to use it without getting it all over my face…
Sunset Junction is the other pressed pigment, it is a stunning burnt orange that this photo is not doing any justice at all! This one is also packed with pigment and really makes your eyes pop.
This set contains loads of stunning colours that can be combined for tons of looks, I recommend for the price point. There are some shadows that have been near impossible to work with but overall I have few complaints. The concept behind this set is so novel, I would love to see others of its kind! Dallas, Portland or New York just to name a few 😀 Check it out, it is a one of a kind addition to any collection.
Thanks for stopping by ❤
