Blogmas 2016

Blogmas: Day 10

It finally feels like winter here at -5 degrees, it’s a little unpleasant and I don’t normally leave for lunch but I know that I should go and start my car or else – boo. I don’t mind the cold and I am glad that we get 4 seasons here, I think I would miss it if we didn’t. Anyway, I was just having a conversation with the BF about the choice of being either deaf or blind, this sounds really morbid and was a follow up discussion to a short story that I had read that just ripped my heart out. Also, let it be known that we were in no way trivializing either or any disability. Anyway, I chose blind because I cannot imaging an existence without music. I would have loved to have played the bagpipes but I think my mom and orthodontist were in cahoots and I started the violin at an early age instead. I listen to all kinds of music, I will listen to anything once – if I don’t have music on the stereo then I have ear buds in. Here are my favourite holiday music picks and really, some of them have nothing to do with Christmas:

Christmas Time is Here – Vince Guaraldi Trio (A Charlie Brown Christmas)

Con Te Partiro – Andrea Bocelli ft. Sarah Brightman (Not a Christmas song at all but I enjoy it this time of year. Yes, Por ti Volare is the song that Will Ferrell sings at the end of Stepbrothers but believe it or not, it was a song before then. Sheesh). And can I just say – there are critics who say that Sarah Brightman is a tad dramatic in this performance but I disagree, I think she is conveying the emotion of the piece. Just watch their faces.

Greensleeves – any version, pipe and drums are the best though.

Andre Rieu – Bolero (He is amazing conducting anything but this version is so similar yet so different than any other variation I have heard).

Noel – Eldad Zvulun

Trans-SIberian Orchestra – pretty much anything although their music is very unsettling.

White Christmas – Bing Crosby. I mean, obviously.

Merry Christmas Baby – Otis Redding

Auld Lang Syne – Guy Lombardo or really any version

The Gael – Scythian (if you are not sobbing by the end of this then I can’t even).

What Child is This – Celtic Woman

I think that’s it, well all I can think of right now at least…
