Sample Saturday – Oribe

I am reading Big Little Lies – OMG, it is so good. I wanted to read it before I watched the show, in all honesty my interest piqued when I saw the stacked cast and I didn’t know the premise or anything. Ugh, it is so good. In the first chapter when Jane said glittery women, I knew exactly what she meant – finally, there is a way to describe these women I see and envy all of the time. I see them at the coffee shop, Target, salon – they look a little harassed and frantic in their yoga pants and bare faces but you know they can turn into a stunner with a snap of the finger and attend smart parties with their perfectly primped spouses. They possess the same determined stride in sneakers or stilettos, they can apply red lipstick with no mirror, even a messy bun looks perfectly coifed. I don’t get it, they usually have about 3 kids and still look so done where as I who am only responsible for getting my own ass out the door usually looks a little unkempt – it just isn’t fair. Also, when did the suburban replace the mini van? We had a mini van (well my mom, who was definitely a glittery woman had one) – anyway, it is so good and I cannot wait to jump into the show.

I so want to get in on the dry shampoo trend and have tried quite a few after receiving them in a few sub-boxes but have not found one that I am loving yet. In my December Birchbox I received a sample of Oribe Gold Lust Dry Shampoo and now that I have used it all I think I can offer a fairly decent opinion? This product claims to absorb product buildup, oil and impurities with translucent powders while soothing scalp and restoring strength and softness. Fragrance-retention technology means our signature scent stays with you all day. I didn’t like it, knowing next to nothing about dry shampoo – this one didn’t seem to do what a dry shampoo should do. It has a powdery, floral scent that isn’t overwhelming but it does linger all day (one thing that was properly advertised) – I felt like I had doused my head in body powder. While it didn’t leave a residue that I could see, my hair was starchy and pretty unmanageable. I thought that a dry shampoo would refresh my hair but it felt very weighed down and stiff. I know how to use dry shampoo and I tried a few techniques including spraying it on before bed and it just didn’t do anything for me. Secretly, I was hoping that it had gold sparkle in it or something but nope – I literally have no idea what the Gold Lust is about. The full size (6 oz.) retails for $44 and I do not think that it is worth even close to that. I am happy to see the end of this one but still have a few that I am excited to try!

Thanks for stopping by <3
