The Ordinary – An Update

So, currently I am about a month in with using The Ordinary and was ready to repurchase a few things and figured it was perfect timing to share an update on what are must haves and what didn’t work for me. Spoiler – most everything worked for me and I am so hooked on this brand!

The GoodLactic Acid 5% + HA 2% – This stuff is amazing! This is an exfoliating serum that makes your skin incredibly smooth, lactic acid is hydrating all on its own but this serum also contains hyaluronic acid for ultimate skin plumping. I have been using this every night, applying before any other creams. This has cleared up some areas of texture, I still struggle with patches on one side of my face but getting there. For my repurchase I graduated to the 10% serum as the 5% is very mild if you are used to using lactic acid. If you aren’t but would like to use it, start here – only use at night and don’t forget your sunscreen in the AM 🙂 Lactic acid does smell a little funk but this dissipates as it absorbs.

Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution – Another love and I did repurchase this one, it did sting a little for the first week or so but once my skin was used to it I haven’t had issues. This is another exfoliant, it helps to remove any residual gunk, makes my skin glow and keeps break outs at bay. Between these 2 exfoliators, I have experienced a serious reduction in flare ups and like where my skin is at. I still use a acne treating gel during the day if I have something that won’t budge.

AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution – I was super worried about using this when I received it, I tend to have sensitive skin and thought this was going to melt my face off of my face. Not so! This is an incredibly potent peel that I only used 2 times over the course of the month and it is crazy amazing. You must apply it to dry skin, I gently kind of massage it into my face and let it set for 10 minutes. The first 9 minutes are fine, the last 60 seconds burn like Hell fire. I would recommend using a cool cloth to wash off, it recommends lukewarm but that was still too warm for my face. I was shocked that my face was not beet red, it looked totally fine and holy smooth! Obviously, skip any other acids and just do your moisture routine after use. It smells funk and it looks like your face is bleeding because the product itself is so red – your face isn’t bleeding 😛 It is fabulous but still be careful.

Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 – Definite repurchase, I love oils but they don’t always wear well under foundation – this is the perfect solution for that extra shot of hydration during the day. It absorbs quickly and cleanly and keeps my skin hydrated without breaking down my foundation and powder.

The Good (1)100% Plant-Derived Squalane – I do not know what the hype is all about with this stuff. To me, it was like a thin oil and it felt nice but didn’t do anything different than any other oil that I have used. My skin did feel hydrated in the AM but it also caused immediate pore blockage around my nose and on my forehead where I so rarely break out! I had to stop using it. Just not crazy about it, I use all types of different oils, few cause me issue so I was pretty surprised at this!

Advanced Retinoid 2% –  I had a reaction to this, unfortunately – I just don’t think that I will ever be able to use a retinoid. They don’t bother the area of skin that I put them on but the day after using these, about half way through the day – underneath my eyes will start to get puffy, itchy and red, then I get hives around on my chin and neck. Then my skin gets scaly and I go into a full peel but tell you what – the remaining skin is baby smooth 😛 Nothing against the product, I thought this might happen 🙁

The Good (2)Well obviously I had to try more! Argireline Solution 10% – Wayne Goss claims that this stuff is like botox in a bottle and have you seen his face?! I cannot wait to start using this! It was sold out when I placed my first order and I have been waiting so patiently for it to be back in stock. I will report back soon!

I am so enjoying this brand, it is affordable but definitely great quality. Of course not everything will work for everyone but I feel a lot better about being out 6 bucks as opposed to what some other skincare products cost.

Thanks for stopping by <3
