Trying On: MAC Cosmetics

So, per usual I am dinking around on social media – wasting time and came upon this post about how some new Kim Kardashian makeup product sold out in less than 15 minutes and she made 14 million dollars. The caption stated something along the lines of, The idolization of these people is a sign of the end of times. And I am over here thinking, really? Of all the shit that has gone down in the last 10 years, hell the last 2 years and this really put you over the edge? This is your sign that Judgement Day is upon us? The Kardashian Klan doing what they do, selling you shit you don’t need will be the end of mankind. No more contour and nude lips people, lest ye be smote. Forget that the honey bees are going extinct, the vast water shortage or rampant forest fires – social media celebrities will have us all burning in sulfur. OK, I’m done. I mean, honestly though – go outside.

Not that long ago  I was in the MAC store at the mega mall and they were PETA approved, I feel as though this was in the last 2’ish years? Fast forward to today and they aren’t, they don’t test on animals unless required by law – so they must be selling in the Chinese market? I don’t know but I am kinda’ annoyed as I would have skipped on picking anything up since I have never tried the brand before and wouldn’t know what I was missing. Anyway, the items that I picked up I have been curious about after seeing them used in quite a few tutorials and reading decent reviews.

I picked up a bottle of the Prep & Prime Fix+ since everyone raves about this product. I tested it under my face yesterday and over my makeup today, it works both ways. I was skeptical about a spray doing any actual priming but it is sticky so foundation really does stick to it. It smells amazing, it is formulated with green tea, chamomile and cucumber. The spritzer is nice too – it provides a fine, even mist. It feels lovely and doesn’t irritate my skin.

Then I just picked up two lip products as I am a lip product junkie; their Lip Conditioner and a vanilla Lip Scrubtious. The conditioner is nice to apply before I start my makeup, it totally absorbs by the time my face is on and then my lips are ready for lippie application. It is very plush and moisturizing but not too thick. The scrub is finely gritted, it smells really nice and doesn’t taste like anything.

That’s it, and I think that will be all that I ever try from MAC – I just can’t get behind the corporate greed of wanting to sell in the Chinese market or any market that requires animal testing by law. Maybe if more companies took a stand and refused to make their products available to these markets, the government would change their outdated requirements. I mean, probably not but let me just be naive. Ah well, there are plenty of other cruelty free brands to covet and support.

Thanks for stopping by ❤

  1. I have two MAC products. One lipstick which I love and one of the Trolls lip glass limited edition collection. I think I’ll only buy from the limited edition collections if I like something. Otherwise, you could really find something at Sephora that’s just as good.

  2. I haven’t been impressed with MAC when I’ve tried it so I don’t feel like I’m missing out. I am trying to be more conscious of what I buy and their animal testing stance. I want to buy cruelty free only going forward!

    1. Yea, I think they have a niche, cult following which is why I’m surprised they thought they could be profitable in other markets. It’s annoying that companies don’t formally announce these things – even companies like Urban Decay who are owned by a non-cruelty free parent company. They’ve gained a following of consumers interested in cruelty free/vegan products and it seems shady that companies aren’t more transparent. Lesson learned 😔

      1. I agree, companies should be realizing they are going to lose anyway by being shady, so might as well be honest about it and then make the necessary changes!

    1. I’ve tried the Milani – it is quite good. Everyone must think so since it’s hard to find 😊 Milani always impresses me, very dependable and affordable!!
