I was asked to work on a somewhat creative writing piece at work and totally panicked – I am not a creative writer. I never grasped the concept of creating characters and worlds out of thin air and putting them to paper in a cohesive manner. I kinda’ struggled with it and kept procrastinating – turns out my boss really liked what I turned in. I was elated and then I thought, Well shit. That could have been my best work, anything I crank out now will just be mediocre I have peaked. This is generally how I feel when I do something well, that it won’t get any better than that and I should just strive for mediocrity 😛
I cheated a little this month on my Birchbox and chose the curated option. I think that you get a choice to be totally surprised, pick one sample or pick the curated box and know what you are getting. I did this because I knew that I wanted at least three of the samples and have received a few less than great boxes from them recently. The theme of this box is Easy Does It and something about winding down from summer. Here is what I received:
stila cosmetics Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick – I received that shade Aria which is described as a magenta plum. I didn’t swatch it as I want to wait until fall to wear mattes again but it looks a tad more pink than plum on first inspection. I have not tried this formula, this product was on sale in ULTA a few weeks ago and I checked some shades out but didn’t feel like they were anything that I hadn’t seen before. I am glad to be able to give it a whirl and see if I like it.
amika Bombshell Blowout Spray – I don’t like this brand and am pretty sure that I have received this before. This product is supposed to give lift and volume, it can be applied on wet or dry hair – most of the sprays from this brand just tangle my hair and this will be a gift away.
Living Proof Restore Mask Treatment – I am excited to try this, I have used their shampoos and not been impressed but I love a good mask. This is a great sized sample too, I can probably get 3-4 uses out of this tub.
Purlisse Blue Lotus Seed Mud Mask + Exfoliant – This is another product that I wanted to try. This mask is supposed to smooth, brighten and exfoliate the skin. It is formulated with white clay, bamboo, ginger, white tea and rice bran. The full-size is expensive at $52 for 2.5 ounces – I hope this is fabulous.
Dr. Jart+ Water Fuse Ultimate Hydro Gel – This was the last product that I wanted to try, I have enjoyed using gel moisturizers in the past but some of them ball up underneath foundation and in my hairline. This one is literally like water, I love the consistency. I have worn it a couple of days now under makeup and it doesn’t do anything weird to my foundation. I did notice that my face was a little sticky but the product totally absorbs in little to no time and keeps my skin hydrated but not greasy. This product is reasonably priced at $39 for 1.7 ounces. If it doesn’t start to break me out, this might be a keeper.
I picked this box so I cannot complain too terribly much and like I said, I did want to actually try most of the products. Overall, I thought it was a fun box with a decent mix of products – I don’t mind receiving a couple of skincare items or hair care products in the same box.
Thanks for stopping by <3
