Wednesday Reveal – September Birchbox

A new day, 100 new makeup releases. Honestly, where do these brands find the time!? I think the new Fenty Beauty line looks stunning and Rihanna is that perfect mash-up of chic yet cool. I am hesitant to try anything as reviews have been so all over the place though. The line is owned by Kendo Brands which interestingly enough also owns KVD Beauty and Marc Jacobs – I never would have guessed that these two brands share a parent company. I also like both of these brands, I am definitely curious about the new addition to their line up. There are a few Sephora stores in my area that carry the line, I might have to go and take a peek.

I will preface this post by saying that this was the most disappointing Birchbox to date. I know that it is a sample box, I know that it is only 10 bucks but they didn’t even try this month! The best part is that the theme for this month is Customer Appreciation and I am just not feeling it. Here is what came in my box:

Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray – This spray is part dry shampoo, part texturizer that is supposed to soak up oils while adding rough-and-tumble texture. Their words, not mine. Everything from this brands smells delicious, if they made a fragrance – I would buy it. I tried their dry shampoo and don’t recall liking it but I also have a really hard time with dry shampoos. My hair is already really textured but I will give this a try, might be good for in between washes.

12 Benefits Instant Healthy Hair Treatment  – Look, more hair products. This is a leave-in conditioning spray that is formulated with proteins and lipids that is supposed to improve strength and increase shine. I only tried this once on damp hair and it just felt like water, it doesn’t feel like leave-in conditioners that I have tried. I didn’t notice a difference in may hair, we’ll see if I notice anything as I keep using it. I don’t mind receiving hair care products but two in the same box seems lazy and I don’t even think I added anything about my hair in my profile. Mer, mer.

Avene Cleanance MAT Mattifying Toner – This is a triple-action toner that is supposed to be ideal for acne-prone and oily skin which sounds great. I have gotten lucky with a few toner samples and am going to give this a whirl.

Arrow Enhance Waterproof Eyeliner and Brightener – My pencil isn’t dual-ended, I received the brightening pencil. If you are new here, I stopped lining my water line with a light pencil because it was just a superfluous thing in my beauty routine. I love these gurus who spend 2 hours adding unnecessary details to their routine. Let’s take this crease shade and blend it away to nothing. Then let’s take this other shade that is almost the same as that first shade and blend it away to nothing. Just tell me how much makeup I can get on my face, in the least amount of time without looking completely crazy, I work for a living. Oh, honey. All this shade, honey.

The Beauty Crop Glamazon Stick Highlight Crayon – This is a pink’ish highlight crayon that does look really pretty, I am unsure of how it performs. It claims to be golden in the product description but I disagree. I love the tube, it has pineapples on it.

I liked the box design, I love the gold and black scheme- very chic but the contents just felt lazy. I really wanted to subscribe for an entire year to get the full experience but I am ready to tap out on this subscription – I just haven’t been impressed.

  1. I bought several Fenty products and they’re pretty great. I am obsessed with the matchsticks. The foundation and primer as a combo doesn’t work well on me (something about the formula and my skin care don’t mix) but I used the foundation with another primer and the primer with another foundation and those combos were fine. It’s definitely a line worth checking out.

    • I’d like to at least try the foundation – it does look nice! I haven’t been able to get into a Sephora to test it out but soon. Thanks for the info!!
