I don’t know if I am doing Blogmas this year, I find it really hard to write posts that are holiday related. I mean, I love Christmas but how does one talk about it for 25 straight days?! I enjoy reading everyone’s Blogmas but I myself am in need of some holiday inspo.
It’s funny that the theme for the November Play! is Me O’Clock – I was just recently peeved off over a YouTuber yakking on about self-care and SJW’s, two terms that I feel have been completely bastardized in the United States especially. I don’t know when self-care was hijacked by self-proclaimed SJW’s but it’s definitely abused. I feel that the individuals who need the most self-care are those who might be caring for an aging parent, chronically ill family member, someone who has lost their home, a single parent working 3 jobs, someone coping with depression or other mental illnesses, etc. And you know what? They probably rarely have the opportunity or resources to indulge to in self-care. Hearing this Youtuber use the term so pretentiously totally pissed me off, honestly, get a perspective. Also, the real social justice warriors don’t need to refer to themselves as such, they earn the title as a result of their actions. I am a fan of self-care, I don’t call it that though, I like to treat myself – call it what it is. Didn’t expect all of that social commentary at the start of subbox post, did ya? Here is what came in this month’s pretentious-ass box:
Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Major Volume Mascara – I think this is the item that all subscribers received. I love the wand on this mascara, it is fluffy but not too big that I smudge it all over my eyes. I have worn this a few times and did enjoy the volume, it wears well too without flaking. I will keep using this one, it’s definitely nice.
Sephora Collection Ultra-Shine Lip Gel in Perfect Nude – I don’t think that I have ever tried an item from Sephora’s own line. I like this though, it feels very lightweight and non-sticky, I think that it is the gel bit that makes it so comfortable. This nude-y shade doesn’t have a ton of pigment but it does have a nice shine.
Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask – I have used this mask before, I do enjoy it. I don’t think that it is particularly effective at clearing pores but it does tighten them and feels very refreshing.
Caudalie Vinosource SOS Thirst Quenching Serum – This is a fabulous brand, this serum smells really lovely and it supposed to deliver immediate, long-lasting hydration. I don’t know if I am totally on board with the serum trend, it kinda’ just feels like another thing that I have to do and if my skin cream is giving me enough moisture then what is the point? I will hang onto it and see if it makes a difference in the super dry weather.
MoroccanOil Treatment – This is hair oil that can be used on wet or dry tresses. It is formulated with argan oil, this will be a gift-away.
Burberry My Burberry Blush – I would describe this as a dry floral – it’s nice but generic. I like the pink cap though and that it came in a spritzer so that I can actually use it.
Overall, not a bad box – I am loving the skincare and makeup bits!
