Sunday Funday – Random Drugstore Haul

After wandering around the frozen aisles of Target last night looking for pork dumplings, I realized that I never get offered help when I am in stores. Never sounds like a strong word but I am serious, I have to make direct eye contact or stare directly at an associate before I am acknowledged. I will approach them, I don’t just stare at them but shouldn’t they be approaching me? I don’t know what it is about me, do I seem unfriendly? Maybe I just don’t look like I need help and usually I don’t but for the times that I do, it would be nice if 10 store associates didn’t walk by me without even acknowledging me. I found the dumplings, 25 minutes and a bunch of other shit that I didn’t need later. PSA brick and mortar stores, this is why I generally do my shopping online and have my groceries delivered.

So, I was at the drugstore, again, and all of the L’Oreal skincare was on buy 2 get 1 free. Obviously, I bought four because that is just how I roll – I thought the sale was buy 3 get 1 free, oops. Every year, right around my birthday, I go into anti-aging hyper drive and start obsessively looking at products with outrageous anti-aging claims. I already take good care of my skin, I don’t know why I go into this panic but it’s probably giving me fine lines. I picked up these Revitalift Bright Reveal Brightening Peel Pads with 10% glycolic acid. Tati had these in a favourites video and I have been waiting to purchase them after finishing up some other peel pads. I am actually a tad disappointed in the percentage of glycolic acid, I thought they had the same amount as my current peel but those actually have 20% – we will see how good these work.

My mom used ROC products and she had good skin, I rarely see this brand anymore but apparently these are new – they are Daily Resurfacing Discs. I used one last night, they get really sudsy which surprised me and one side of the disc is abrasive. I have switched to using almost all chemical exfoliants over physical ones, unsure of how I will like these.

I picked up some of these lovely jarred masks from L’Oreal, I really enjoy this range of clay masks. I used the green one this weekend, it is for purifying and mattifying – the clay in these isn’t too drying, I am a fan.

This is not skincare but I mentioned that I am on the hunt for a good drugstore mascara, they had these mascara/primer duos for roughly 5 bucks. The other choice was a Lash Paradise duo and we already know how I feel about that product.

Random find and I think that these were probably just stocked for the holidays, they had teenie tubes of Embryolisse Crème Concentrate. I would love to see this brand carried in American drugstores but I didn’t see any other products. This is a multi-purpose crème, it is very fluid and smells like lilacs – such a find!

That’s it, some interesting finds – I love going to the drugstore to see what they have!

Thanks for stopping by <3

Every time I need help in Target I can never find anyone! But I still shop there because it’s my favorite and they have a Starbucks inside so it’s like the mother ship calling me home ha ha.

Glad it’s not just me 😂 I love shopping there too, they’re lucky that I don’t need help often. I’ve just pulled out my phone and used the app to locate stuff before. Yes, can’t beat that convenience!

Ha! It’s funny you mentioned your customer service experience because I had something similar two weeks ago but at MAC. Apparently MAC is known notoriously for it though but I like to think each store is individual and wouldn’t like to paint the whole brand with the same brush. If I go to the MAC counter at one of our department stores, they are genuinely super friendly and will tend to you almost straight away. They also seem a lot more relatable and I hate to say it, but not so stuck-up. I had to go to the official MAC store which is on the other side of the mall in look for a blush that was out of stock. I was in there for a good 20 minutes at least and absolutely no one tended to me. There was probably 1 on the cashier, 3 on the floor of which 2 were too busy chatting away and fixing their makeup. I just couldn’t believe it.

Anyways, rant over, those l’oreal masks are definitely next on my wishlist! But I shall be a good girl and wait after new year. 🙂

Yes! I have had similar experiences at MAC and you are right. I also didn’t want to judge the entire corporation but it holds true. It is annoying in a store that small too because you can see the associates ignoring you! You know that they know you are standing there. I like that MAC is offered in ULTA now, I tend to get really good service in ULTA and the gals who work the MAC counter are really helpful.

      Definitely recommend the masks 🙂

Haha! I read this article about a retailer in Japan, I think, that provides two different colours of baskets for shoppers. One is for those who think they’ll need help and one for those who don’t. I think Target should try that and see what happens! I get better customer service from their app!

I love a good haul. I never get in a drugstore now. I was in one for the first time in a year for my flu shot. I perused the makeup section and wasn’t tempted. I went by the hair dye and instantly wanted the lilac hair dye. But those days for me are over. But maybe my ends next summer or an underneath layer.

    • Stella

Meh, the makeup has not been great but I’ll always test out skincare. I work with a gal who has lilac hair, it kind of looks grey. It’s really pretty, you should! That would be fun!

I’ve done the beaded extensions in purple that were done like highlights for my 19 th birthday. I did the splat purple on my ends in 2013 when I was 21and everyone thought it was kolaid because “no way you can get the color that bright without using bleach first”. Lol. I would use splat or manic panic again because it is just vegetable die. It comes out. Ill probably do the under layer because that is more professional looking and probably around May. That would mark my 2 years of having done NOTHING to my hair in terms of coloring. I try to do an occasional year but because of breast feeding and feeling uninspired. Yeah..

I’ve never had anyone ask if I was finding everything alright at Target, and I swear the moment you need assistance the 500 employees you have seen walking around all vanish. That being said, at other retail stores employees are everywhere. I think it just depends on what retail circuit they are a part of.

    • Stella

Agreed – I can’t keep associates away from me at Best Buy! It definitely depends on where you are. What surprises me is that Target keeps opening new stores while retailers with arguably better customer service are closing! It’s too bad 😔
