Trying On: tarte Chrome Paint

I thought that I would talk about some makeup today for a change! I have been so deep into the whole K-Beauty routine and researching new skincare that makeup has taken a back seat. *gasp* I have purchased a couple of new things recently but rather sparingly – I actually have my eye on the new mermaid edition tube of the Lights, Camera, Lashes and I know that it is the same formula but I love that mascara and I love it when they come out with these gorgeous tubes.

Today, I have the Chrome Paint pots that I am less than in love with. I received these for my birthday and I really hate complaining about a gift but I just don’t find myself using these very often. I should be totally into them, they are high-shine, pigmented, fairly easy to use and the colours are stunning but they are missing something. They swatch beautifully but so much of the sparkle and shimmer is lost when applied to the actual eye. I have used these a couple of different ways, as an all-over base with matte shadows over top and vice versa. I think that it is the texture of these that fails to make them perform really well on the eyes, they aren’t quite a creme but not quite a powder. The sparkle doesn’t do a great job of adhering and I experienced quite a lot of flaking. What should have turned out as a colour saturated, dripping in gold, glittery eye was just kinda’ meh. They are near impossible to layer too so forget about trying to build the sparkle up. I have tried these wet and dry, using them wet actually dulls them down even more in my experience. I really like the glass pots and gold twist-caps, they are a lovely vanity piece but I would recommend the Colourpop Supershock shadows in any of the metallic finishes. I think that they perform better and they are way more affordable, plus there are tons of shades. These tarte shadows come in 6 shades and retail at $22/each which is pretty spendy for a product that is essentially a topper. I have the shades Park Avenue Princess, Pot of Gold, Martini and Top Yacht which are all fairly neutral so I know that I will use these up but just not was wowed as I thought I would be!

Side note, I feel that tarte has really quadrupled their new releases and I think it’s too much. Plus all of these fantasy collections, it’s hard to discern one brands’ unicorn/fairy/manticore/gorgon themed collection from another.

Anyway, thanks for stopping by <3
