I am a little stressed out about my skin looking so good – I am waiting for it to freak out and be like; Bitch, you thought…In my defense, that is always what happens! I am hesitant to share my new skincare routine because I feel like I will be back at square one in a couple of weeks but here I go anyway! For those of you who don’t know, I switched over to the much talked about Korean skincare routine. Depending on who you ask, there are 7-10 steps to flawless skin. I have dabbled in Korean skincare for some time but only totally switched my skincare back in late January which I feel has been long enough to get some pretty serious results. Here is my evening routine that I am loving!
When my skin was at the height of its cystic acne phase, I never would have put oil on my face but now I love them and have a few cleansing balms/oil cleansers that I use in rotation. Oil cleansers are great for dissolving and breaking down all of the makeup that I wear and they don’t strip my skin while doing it.
DHC Deep Cleansing Oil: I use this fairly often, I like it because I of its thicker consistency and it dissolves eye makeup like nothing else that I have tried. I don’t use it all of the time because the scent is a little off-putting, it smells like cooking oil but other than that, it’s great.
Aromatica Orange Cleansing Sherbet: The scent of this cleansing balm is much more pleasant, not too sweet with just a hint of oranges. I didn’t think that I would like it because it felt very waxy but once it gets warmed up and worked into the skin it feels much creamier and luxurious. I like that this makes my skin feel hydrated but not filmy, I don’t recommend getting it in your eyes though because it does make your eyeballs filmy. I think my blog platform should change to me rubbing shit in my eyes so you don’t have to – I literally cannot keep stuff out of my eyes.
Don’t quote me on this but I think that one can use cream/water/gel cleansers for the second step in the double cleanse.
CosRX Low-pH Good Morning Cleanser: I don’t do the whole cha-cha in the AM but I do use this mild cleanser each morning. It’s a simple product that does just what it says and provides just enough of a cleanse to get my skin perked up and ready for makeup.
Salicylic Acid Daily Gentle Cleanser: This is the cleanser that I use in the PM as part of my double cleanse, I love the herbal scent and it makes my skin feel squeaky clean but not parched – it’s one of the most gentle salicylic products that I have used.
I exfoliate every other night or else my skin gets too dried out and tight.
Neogen Dermalogy Real Cica Pad: Eh, I cannot say that these are my fave and would recommend something more like a Glow Tonic but I have to use these up. They are thin discs that are soaked in centella asiatica and hyaluronic acid. Centella extract works well for my skin, I just wish that these had a little more exfoliating oomph.
Klairs Supple Preparation Facial Toner: I love toner, I think that the added step of swiping off any leftover gunk has really made a difference with improving the evenness of my skin. I like this toner because it is so moisturizing and the subtle scent is a treat.
Neogen Real Ferment Micro Essence: This is the step that I struggle with, the essence is supposed to be one of the most important parts in the whole process but it just feels like I am splashing water on my face. I chose this one because it claims to have deep hydrating, brightening and plumping properties but it legit just feels like water – it doesn’t bother my skin but I can’t say if it is doing anything.
Madagascar Centella Aiatica 100: Centella is supposed to be a miracle herb and my skin loves it. This serum reduces redness and inflammation, improves texture and delivers intense hydration. I am addicted to this serum, I use it as part of my AM and PM routines.
I don’t have a particular brand that I am using when it comes to sheet masks, I’ve enjoyed most of the ones that I have tried. Some go-to brands have been TonyMoly, Cremorlab, Leaders, Benton and Dr. Jart+. I like masks that are on the dryer side, I don’t like them to be too moist and soupy.
Benton Fermenation Eye Cream: I am on the fence with this product and think that I will go back to my Kiehl’s when I use this up. Fermented ingredients are supposed to be packed with potent antioxidants and I do think this does a great job at hydrating my under eyes but it stinks! It smells like sweaty gym socks or something equally as potent. I get that it’s fermented but I can’t – I like my skincare routine to be luxurious and pleasantly scented.
Mario Badescu Facial Spray: I add a few shots of whatever spray I have on hand but I am partial to the Aloe, Herbs & Rosewater. I have used this product for years and it does a really nice job of adding another moisture barrier for my parched skin.
SkinRx MadeCera Face Cream – This is a very heavy moisturizer and I only apply it around my mouth where my skin is exceptionally dry and tight.
Klairs Rich Moist Soothing Cream: I really like this cream because it is very moisturizing but not too heavy or sticky – I apply this all over my face and neck.
I still have yet to find a sleeping pack or mask that I really like, the one that I picked up from Botainc Farm is definitely nice but I have only used it a handful of times because it is quite heavy.
That’s my current skincare routine and I have to say that it is going good so far! I have some emulsions and serums that I might use off and on but these are the most consistently used products in my routine. The whole process with a sheet mask takes about 40 minutes but my skin has never looked better. I think the best part of exploring K-Beauty is all of the fantastic ingredients, the formulations are potent but often naturally derived. I haven’t had a breakout or bad reaction thus far and overall can’t complain!
