Current Youtube Short List

I was going to post my ULTA haul but my ULTA has a commitment to putting product in the wrong spot and I came home with two products in the wrong shade. I could check the product before I leave and that would save me a lot of time but I forget and not to mention I feel like I just posted a haul and I don’t know how interesting they are…? I was surfing Youtube today on my lunch after not having been on there for ages aside from watching Adobe tutorials and I did a clear out of gurus who I find vapid and uninspiring. Rather than list all of the reasons that I cannot watch these people anymore, I will just list the ones that made my short list πŸ˜›

makeupbyjaack – I think he has become my all time fave, he is witty and his makeup skills are pretty incredible. We use a lot of the same brands which doesn’t really matter but he uses products in new ways that I would never think of. He makes a cut crease look like child’s play but I still can’t do one and really, I can’t wear that to work. Check him out if you haven’t already.

pixiwoo – I have realized that when I started to really get into makeup, I watched a lot of gurus rather than actual makeup artists, which is fine because there are also tons of talented gurus but my techniques have changed since watching the pixioo sisters. Even though I wear a lot of makeup, I don’t use it as much of a mask anymore and it’s just by changing little things like only powdering where I need it, using a brush instead of a sponge – just little things that have made big differences. Their content is always packed with so much technique and creativity, I missed them on my break from Youtube.

KathleenLights – I am actually pretty new to her channel but I think she is absolutely lovely. I enjoy her personality and authenticity plus she always has on stunning makeup, I have never seen a look on her that I didn’t like.

Spoon Graphics – Most of my time on Youtube has been spent relearning and learning new techniques in Illustrator. I was recently using the Adobe suite at work for some projects and forgot about all of the amazing things that you can do with it. Even if you know the programs, he shares loads of tricky little shortcuts and techniques.

That’s really all that I have been watching on Youtube, in all honesty the whole platform has gotten a bit weird with a ton of channels just churning out the same content and when that’s not working they post something overly dramatic about how their channel is dying. Is anyone else a little jaded with the whole Youtube scene? Who are you watching?

Thanks for stopping by <3

I don’t watch many beauty videos for the same reason! I’ll watch people who used to be mostly beauty youtubers who have become more of lifestyle youtubers with vlogs. It’s just not the same anymore!

It isn’t! I’ll have to check out more lifestyle channels because I’m over the gurus.

Ohh! I have watched some of Spoon Graphics’ videos before and I remember that they are helpful and at a good speed to follow. I haven’t watched in a while though but like you, I’d love to brush up on my photoshop and illustrator skills further to see what I can do with it.

Agreed…YouTube has become a big yawn to me in the last 6 months or so. Because of sponsorships or PR, everyone talks about the same product, whether it’s beauty or tech or, who knows, maybe it’s the same for the gaming community? I digress. I still like Pixiwoo though because they have kept to doing things professionally…no weird intros or gimmicks. I haven’t watched Kathleen in a while but I like her too.

He’s really good, totally agree – his pace is perfect for actually teaching someone. Super easy to follow! It’s an awesome suite, I go through phases with using the programs but definitely enjoy them when I get back in the groove.

That’s the thing, I don’t want to watch 20 reviews of the same thing – it all seems so robotic! I think that companies are just dumping a lot of resource into getting their product on YouTube and it’s become oversaturated. Maybe people will start reading more 😁

Tend to follow more lifestyle blogs and vlogs now a days. The beauty industry has changed drastically from how it was before. Thanks for sharing!

Agreed! I’ll have to start checking out more lifestyle channels, seems to be the consensus 😊
