Summer Glow Base

I just spent 45 minutes looking at mayonnaise, not because I had any intention of purchasing any but because I couldn’t determine why there were so many different kinds. How is there a market for so many versions of the same product? How much mayonnaise are Americans consuming?! Is anyone really eating the olive oil kind because, gag. But then I realized that there are literally 500 different versions of almost any product – glass cleaner, laundry detergent, pickles, diapers, lotion – I just don’t understand how companies can make money, the supply has to exceed demand and yet prices tend to stay fairly stagnant or they increase. I hate going to Target, it’s an existential crisis.

Summer is here, apparently, and that means lighter, less fussy makeup or at least the appearance of being so 😛 I generally try to wear a base that is on the dewier side so that my skin doesn’t look so dry, most of these products I wear year round but I have made some tweaks and officially perfected my summer skin cocktail.

After skincare, I apply a couple drops of this Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Skin Therapy Oil and work that in really well. Now, it doesn’t actually say that you can put this on your face but the ingredients are identical to their face oil aside from the added rose fragrance so I use it on my face and have been doing so for a couple of years or so. I mean, you get way more product for the cost, it feels amazing and I haven’t experienced any adverse reactions. Anyway, an oil is obviously going to give your skin a nice glow and this particular one wears really well under makeup.

Next, I have been using the Smashbox Photo Finish Radiance Primer which does nothing for my pores but it does even my skin tone and has a peachy/pinky tint to it that makes the skin look naturally flushed. This primer is also formulated with hyaluronic acid and adds a little more moisture that will help keep things dewy.

My foundation of choice has been Charlotte Tilbury Light Wonder which has not been a favourite of mine until recently. I find that it looks better without powder which is fine if I am not wearing it for long periods of time but also what keeps me from wearing this one on the regular. When I powder over this foundation it patches up and it’s really annoying.

After the foundation dries down, I have been using this UD bronzer that I spoke about in a recent faves post. Then I take MAC Mineralize Skin Finish in Soft & Gentle on a big powder brush and just stamp that all over my face, which sounds insane but looks amazing. This is the only Skin Finish that I have tried before, I prefer the All Over Face Colors from bareminerals but my local ULTA is constantly out of my shade and the gal recommended this. I love it, it’s a bit powdery but the finish is stunning.

And voila, a less pastier me. Now, this isn’t a long-wearing or high coverage base and I couldn’t get away with wearing this to work without looking like a grease slick. I use a matte foundation if I want a more long-wear base and a setting powder but all of the other steps remain the same.

I hope that you enjoyed, thanks for stopping by <3
