It’s funny that the only channel that I wanted to watch as a kid, and couldn’t was MTV. Now that I can watch whatever I want with impunity, I never watch it until the other night when I clicked it on and thought, What the shit is this?! What happened to MTV?! All of the reality TV shows were becoming popular at the end of my youth (aside from Real World) and I recall watching MTV for actual music programming or mature cartoons, I think they need to bring some of these classics back.
Admittedly, I was a bit young for the original series but did tune in religiously for the reboot which of course did not have all of the old rockers as hosts but was still way better than the total lack of show that it devolved to. I mean, at least they play music videos but I miss the commentary from the people who were there.
I seem to recall hearing rumors of a live action reboot? Never has teenage angst been so poetically captured and I cannot believe that they stopped airing this anthem of my youth!
The Carson Daly years, black nail polish never looked so right. TRL aired at the sweet spot of my getting home from school and my parents not being home from work yet so I caught most of the episodes – including the time Mariah Carey made a bizarre appearance.
Claymation celebrity battles to the death, wildly inappropriate but in a genius kinda’ way.
No idea what this show was about but it was hysterically random, I think it only went for one sweet season!
Want a fish tank in the flatbed of your truck or a soda machine and faux fur bench seats? Xzibit’s got you. This show was so ridiculously over the top, I wonder where some of those cars are now?
Average people getting the celebrity treatment, taught some sick dance moves and then filmed in their very own music video remake. It was like karaoke on steroids.
Arguably the first family of metal let us into their hardcore lives, this show was nuts. I still can’t believe that Ozzy and Sharon split up 🙁
If you ever wanted to know how much work and retakes go into that 3 1/2 minute video, this show gave you all the dirty details. It was just interesting to see so many iconic music moments come to life.
Maybe I am just not into the videos that they are playing but it sure seems like there are a lot less of them these days!
Did you grow up on MTV, what do you miss about the good old days? Thanks for stopping by <3
