Blogtober Day: XXVII – Best of October

I am listening to the second Kathy Reichs/Dr. Brennan book and talk about a long slog of a book read by a mediocre narrator. I imagine that this is what I would sound like narrating a book, like a high-pitched Daria with unexpected accents thrown in for creative flare – the worst. I don’t think that you necessarily have to listen to all of the books in order to keep up with the story and I am about skip out on the 6 remaining hours of this one. I hate to be a quitter though. This post might be a bit long, I really dug into my everyday makeup bag to pull out some forgotten gems that I have been using again as well as some new favourites!

Kiehl’s is one of those brands that some things really work for me but when they don’t, they really don’t. I fell in love with this cream after receiving a sample in a Birchbox and immediately purchased a tub, I actually purchased two tubs because that’s how jazzed I was about it. I almost used the entire first one up then I started to get weird break outs, I blamed the cream and chucked the leftover but kept the unopened one just in case. Well, I started using it again because my skin is already getting incredibly dry and I really do love this cream. I did get one blemish on my forehead within the first week of use but it’s worth it to not have the sides of my mouth cracking and my cheeks stinging during the day. It’s unscented, on the heavier side but not greasy and it’s a fantastic primer for makeup. I would say that this is a cold weather must-have but definitely too heavy for summer time use.

I would disagree with this product being labeled as a balm, the texture seems more similar to a cleansing lotion but I won’t quibble since it is pretty great regardless. I found this randomly in the clearance section of my local Walgreens and haven’t found it since, I’m unsure if it might be discontinued? Anyway, this stuff dissolves everything including waterproof mascara without having to scrub and tug. It is scented but doesn’t burn my eyes which is important since you know that’s the first place it’s going. I don’t know if the anti-aging claims are accurate but it doesn’t dry my skin out which is my greatest concern with any cleanser. If you can find it, I definitely recommend for dry/sensitive skin!

I saw these in a Kathleen Lights video and they are so good, I have the Dewy Glow finish and Multi-Talent but I will definitely give the Anti-Shine finish a whirl in the future. They retail at 7.99 for a little under 2 ounces, I really wish that the bottle was a bit bigger even if the cost was more. The spray nozzle delivers a really fine mist but not so fine that you don’t feel anything. They work too, I see a definite difference in how my makeup wears when I use these sprays. So good, so affordable. This brand is BOGO at ULTA right now, I am going to have snag a couple more.

This is a product that I had to come around to, I didn’t like these shadows when I first purchased them but have found a way to use them that works for me. They are metallic, crystal-like shadows and I find that if I apply them all over my lid without setting my eye primer then use matte shades to define the eye that they are really stunning. If I follow my usual routine of mattes then a pop of glitter, they don’t stick and look dull. They have much more pigment than a topper and can be worn alone while still looking lovely. I’m looking forward to playing with these more around the holidays.

I have probably only owned this for two weeks but I have used at least one shade from this palette just about everyday since owning it. I think I anti-hauled this at one point because I have almost all of these shades aside from the greens and I didn’t think that those would be wearable on me. I take it all back, these greens are very easy to wear – they aren’t like Pow, Poison Ivy, they are much subtler and grungier than I was expecting. Plus, the blend on these is amazing. This formula is different than that of their Stacks but I like it, very creamy and easy to diffuse which is good since their shadows can be almost too pigmented. Yes, I feel that some shadows can be too pigmented because I’m not a pro and I like to build my shadows rather than have a ton of pigment all at once that has to be blended. The black in this palette is so black and not a bit patchy, it’s worth it but it’s also limited edition which is lame.

I forget how much I love this fragrance until I start using it again, it’s so wearable yet fairly complex and smells just a little different each hour of the day. I know it’s dated and I cannot believe that Givenchy keeps making it but it is by far my favourite scent.

Real Techniques has quite a few new brush sets out, I picked up this holiday box with a coupon a couple of weeks ago and I love it! So many favourite brushes and some new ones that I am really enjoying. This isn’t the whole set since some are dirty but they’re all good.

I had to tear myself away from a Wet ‘n’ Wild sparkle powder since I have three at home! Also, I think these are really called ‘highlighting powder’ but I use these loose shimmers all over my face – sounds insane but I mix it with my setting powder and it doesn’t look nuts. The ones that I am loving right now; MAC Silver Dusk, Milani Radiant Setting Powder and TooFaced Peach Tinsel. If used correctly, they add an all-over glow just don’t use too much.

I am so pleased that a second shade has been released in this stunning, shimmery, juicy gloss. Diamond milk adds the perfect amount of luminosity to any lip look, it can be worn over lipstick or on its own which is mostly how i wear it.

I grabbed this on a whim, I don’t usually enjoy overly spicy candles but this is warm and sweet. It was also the last one so it must be a fairly popular pick! I would most definitely try another cinnamon candle, very enjoyable.

Those are the items that I have been especially enjoying this month, how about you – what products made your faves list this month? I cannot believe that October is almost at an end although, it’s been so cold I feel as though we have been well on our way to winter already. Have a beautiful weekend!

The weather has been relatively warm for us in most of October however this morning it really felt like a winter’s day! I’m not gonna lie though – I kinda love the cold breeze against my skin and being able to wear different layers.

Nice favourites! A lot of them I’ve never heard of/seen which is refreshing because who likes to read about favourites that almost everyone raves about anyways? (Probably me still lol but you know what I mean.) Real Techniques have been going nuts with their brush sets lately but I’m not mad. It’s been a long time coming so it’s nice that they’re switching it up with different brush designs/colours etc.

It’s been unseasonably cool here, I keep hearing that we’re supposed to have a mild winter but we’ve already had a few below freezing days & a little snow! Same, I enjoy cooler weather as well.

Thank you! I’ve been trying to get into different products and brands more recently actually 🙂 Kinda shop outside of the trends but yeah, I get what you mean. They have! I agree, I’m enjoying all of the updated colours of old faves. And generally, the quality will be great regardless of how many sets they roll out. Thanks for reading 💚
