Wednesday Reveal – May Boxycharm

My desire to decorate my home comes and goes in spurts, sometimes I am all minimalist and think I have too much stuff and then other days I am picking up knick-knacks and throw pillows like I don’t already own dozens of each. I am in French Country mode, it all started with this vase that I found a few weeks ago and suddenly I am planning the entire living room around it. It really is lovely but I have a feeling that this is just a phase, per usual – best pump the brakes.

Sadly, I feel that Boxycharm is soon becoming one that started out amazing but has become a little lack luster 😦 I think it is still a good value for what you get but that also depends on if I actually use the products. This month’s theme is Makeup Is Art, here is what came in this month’s box:

Highlight & Contour Palette by IBY Beauty – This is a 6 pan highlight and contour palette, I am not opening but reading the reviews it sounds like these aren’t quite powders but not quite cremes. It looks nice and the shades could work for a variety of skin tones, I am not opening this as I know I wouldn’t use it and plan to gift away. I am a little bummed that we just received a palette of concealers last month, apparently they just got the memo about contour…

Liquid Glow by Temptu – I think this is that brand who released that pod/airbrushing product? This cannot be used with that device but it does work either on bare skin or mixed in with foundation. I thought that it was going to be too bronze for me but it fairly sheer. This reminds me a lot of MAC Lustre Drops with a touch less pigment, very wearable.

Round Contour Brush by Crown Pro – This is very soft and dense, I think I would like to try it with foundation than contour.

Convertible Brow by The Brow Gal –  This is a powder/pomade duo which sounds interesting. The shades will work for me, pleased that I got this one! That being said, why are there 3 shades? I feel like I would end up with some really bizarre ombre brows 😛  think it includes 3 so that you can blend them for a good match. It also comes in a handy, portable case.

Brow Brush by The Brow Gal – I am actually more excited about the brush! It has a spoolie end and an angled end, I will get a lot of use from this.

Overall, this box was OK – the dollar value is well over the 21 bucks for the monthly fee (158.49) but the actual value to me is dependent on whether or not I used the products. I can give some items away but I hope I don’t receive any contour/concealer products for a while!

Thanks for stopping by ❤

Anti-Haul #5

It is Tuesday but definitely feels like a Monday plus it is overcast and cold.I am not feeling the summer vibes but still have some plants to pot! I am supposed to be striking vibes from my lexicon but it’s so hard. It’s like when you are told not to think about something and then all you can think of is that one thing. Don’t think about zebras – go 😛 Side note – I am listening to The Girl on the Train and she just bought gin and tonic in cans. Is that a thing? Does anyone know?

I think I am due for an anti-haul, even though I keep buying things that I am supposed to have anti-hauled. Well, only 2 things – that isn’t terrible, talk about no will power though! There are a couple of releases that I am actually really excited about but I am seeing so many things where I am like – really, but why? Who needs this? To start, we have the Clay Play Face Shaping Palette from tarte. It’s like shap-wear, for your face. What kind of slogan is that!? Has a single member of the creative team at tarte ever worn shape-wear – it’s torture! Aside from the shitty slogan, you get 12 shadows that are multi-tasking and can be used on brows, nose and various other areas of your face. These are the Amazonian  clay formula which is a little powdery, I just think it sounds like a mess and these shades are so boring. Go Kat Von D Shade and Light if you are looking for something similar, that palette is amazing and will satisfy any matte/neutral needs.

A couple of brands are releasing a luminizing foundation mix or skin enhancer, I feel like this is a continuation of the highlighter craze but at the end of the day – it really is just highlighter. How much highlight can one human being have on their face at one time – without looking psychotic? In fairness, I typically just wear my makeup to work and I love a good highlight but it can get away from you real quick. I just think these are unnecessary.

I am also having to anti-haul all highlighting powders, reason being that I should be doing the Highlighter Challenge everyday in order to justify even half of my collection. And it takes for-ever to hit pan as I use so little product, I just cannot own anymore with good conscience. Also, Urban Decay – aren’t those shades that you already released and just put in a quad!? I think I am skipping on all of their summer releases, like how about just making a foundation that doesn’t oxidize – ya’ jerks.

Finally, I am anti-hauling any products recommended by a beauty guru that they did not pay for (even Tati). I don’t think that you attach the same expectations to something that you got for free or on sale as you would something that you shelled out full-price for. I have purchased plenty of products on sale and I try not to give them a pass if they suck but sometimes I am less apt to be as judgmental simply because I paid less. I get the free marketing part but you also have to consider that it isn’t free, the cost to send out those ridiculous, over the top PR boxes is charged back to the actual consumer. This is why we are paying 40 bucks for an eye-dropper of product.

I think that is it, really – I am so tired of seeing the same, exact products being released in new packaging. I get that if one brand sees that a product is wildly popular that of course, other brands want to release something of similar popularity – but again, how much of one product does a person need?!

That’s it! Now, I really am going to stick to this 😛 Are there any releases that you are excited about this summer?

A Little NARS Haul

To start, it is Memorial Day and as an American and someone who believes in freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom to love and freedom to pursue your dreams – I know that I don’t show enough gratitude to those who fought to protect and are still fighting to protect our way of life. There are things that I take for granted too often and I’d like to think that it won’t take something catastrophic for me to realize how lucky I am. So to all of those who have served as well as their friends and family you have my infinite gratitude, today and everyday.

Today I would like to do another tag – I only have two more left to do but I also have some volunteering to do, some house work and planting! Why did I put all of this off until today? In the meantime, I have a little NARS haul to share – 3 of the 4 items are really just repurchases. I love when all of my favourite products run out at the same time, oh wait.

The repurchases are a new pot of the Soft Matte Complete Concealer – that is so worth the hype. I love this stuff, it can be layered on and it doesn’t cake. My only beef that the jar doesn’t last a long time. I did grab another Radiant Creamy Concealer, I know that I said I wasn’t going to because of the cost and was hoping to find my shade in a travel size but alas, this concealer is also very good and at least it lasts a tad longer than the jar. And last repurchase is another Hot Sand highlighting blusher, this is, in my opinion the best highlighting blusher for fair skin tones. It is so lovely, but I think this is one that people either love or hate. I love it.

And finally, because I’ve been wanting it and it came back in stock randomly – the NARSissist Loaded Palette. This palette is admittedly, mostly neutrals but if you haven’t tried a NARS shadow you are missing out. I don’t think I own a single one that isn’t perfect. I also don’t own any of their palettes, here is hoping that this is of the same quality. I am such a sucker for their packaging too.

I hope that you have a wonderful weekend, thanks for stopping by ❤

Best of May

I just got a notification that the new Creator OS will be deployed soon and I am just so pissed. I literally just got fully functional with 10 – I struggle with 10 because the claim to fame was, Oohh, it is so sleek. It looks like apps. If I wanted to work in apps, I would work on my tablet. Stop just doing stupid things and claiming that it’s better – it isn’t. Just give me my Nokia brick phone and leave me alone.

I don’t have any empties to share, I had a lip balm and a face spray – nothing exciting. However, I do have a few favourites and one complete dud to share with you!

Let’s start with makeup, I have the Beauty Bakerie Flour Powder in pink that I have been using every, single day. (PSA – they are having a sitewide 30% off sale starting at 9AM PST). This powder is brightening and so finely milled that it really feels like nothing on the skin – really lovely.

Next is the PUR No Filter primer that I don’t want to love and shouldn’t love because it is so gold and shimmery but it is amazing. I don’t know how it works but it is lovely as primer but I have also been mixing it with my matte foundations to sheer them out and it it glorious that way too.

Finally, still going strong with the Hoola Lite 🙂

A couple of skincare items, the Vaseline Lip Therapy lip balms have been obsessively on repeat. Really, any of the flavours – this is pink champagne and smells like roses. My one empty was the cocoa butter flavour. These are super affordable, can be worn under matte lipstick and pack so much hydration.

I am in that phase where my regular face creams feel too heavy during the day and make my makeup tacky. I have had a bottle of Olay Active Hydrating Beauty Fluid on hand for the last 10 years (not this bottle) and I bust it out when I want hydration that I can’t feel. This is a fluid, very lightweight but keeps skin really hydrated – smells nice too.

What is summer without face mist – I ask you. The Milk Makeup Fact Mist is what I have been layering on right after I am done with my base – I wouldn’t recommend as a total face setting spray. It has rice bran in it that keeps my base super matte, it also has loads of other lovely botanicals and ginger apparently. This shit is spendy though so I don’t know if it will be a repurchase.

A surprising favourite was the Benefit Cosmetics They’re Real mascara. I hate their Roller Lash – with that brush they should call it Stabby Lash. That mascara does nothing for me, ULTA had an offer that if you purchased a certain dollar amount that you would get a free full-size of that mascara. Pass. Well, my ULTA was out of the Stabby Lash and I got this one for free instead. I love it, it is super black and easy to build – it lasts all day without flaking or smudging, super surprised.

My May Fail is the Bare it All foundation from PUR, I thought that this would be a sheer, fuss-free foundation to wear during the summer.

This stuff is awful, there are about 2 shades (8 actually, I think) so good luck finding a match. I ordered the 2 lightest and neither is a good match for me and there are about 3 shades that could be in between them. It stinks, it feels like rubbing sunscreen on your face. It is streaky, it oxidizes and it is just a mess. I will do a full review – I think that I will have to put them both on my face so that you can see how terrible the shades are. Cute holo-package, love the low maintenance tube design but gag. Ugh. Review soon.

That’s kinda’ it. I have a few products that I am using everyday so that I can use them up but not necessarily favourites. Looking at you vegan-all natural deodorant. You guys, I really want to wear it and I want it to work for me but I dunno. I will review it when I get through this tube. Anyway, that’s it – what did you love this month? Have you tried any of these?

Thanks for stopping by ❤

Sample Saturday – NARS

I had an out of body experience, actually I don’t think I am using that term correctly 😛 I was shopping online, like you do and came across these sequin shorts. I thought, I don’t own any sequin shorts. These are the missing element to a perfect wardrobe. There is a reason that I don’t own sequin shorts (or any shorts) because I don’t wear them. But in that moment, I thought that these rose gold, sequin shorts were a necessity. I literally have know idea why or how I convinced myself to purchase these, when they arrived in the mail I was even more baffled – who am I even? They are super cute but will never see the light of day 😉 I mean, maybe for Halloween or…? Honestly, are there any other occasions where only sequin shorts will do? I cannot be the only one who has purchased something incredibly asinine with completely faulty rationale.

NARS released a line of Velvet Lip Glides fairly recently and I swatched them in stores and decided to pass. They weren’t quite a lip gloss, not quite a lipstick – the shades were lovely but I just wasn’t into the formulas. When I received a sample of Bound in a Play box I was excited to try it. Bound is a lovely rose pink shade that is flattering and easy to wear. The formula is really like nothing that I had used before, it glides on like a gloss but the opacity is similar to a liquid lipstick. It doesn’t dry down totally matte, but it does set really well on the lips without smudging or feathering. It isn’t drying nor is it tacky, it is extremely comfortable to wear. It smells sweet but not overly so, just a barely there scent. Wear time is much like a gloss or creme lipstick, I touched up a couple of times before eating and then a full reapplication after eating. I don’t mind since is low-maintenance and otherwise fun to wear. If I am wearing a full face, I pair with a liner but it is lovely on its own too.

I love it, I waited ever so patiently for this one to come back in stock – I suspect that everyone who got it in their bag also loved it 🙂 I would definitely pick up a few more shades, they are just so stunning and easy to pop on. I recommend, I don’t think that there is anything that I’ve tried from NARS that I haven’t loved.

Thanks for stopping by ❤

The Liebster Award

So almost there with catching up with all of these!! I will post my regular Sample Saturday today as well so stay tuned. I was nominated for this by Pamela from Starring Pamela, she is a Chicago/Milwaukee based lifestyle blogger. Two of my absolute favourite places, the mid-west has a lot to offer 🙂 So thank you to, Pamela for the nomination and lets get started!

Wedding Menu

  1. Where do you write for you blog, is it the same place all of the time or do you travel about when you write? I either sit at my desk or I push my chair in to a corner by a window to blog. I think that consistent surroundings help put me into a blogging mindset.
  2. What was your go-to talent for talent shows? Usually the violin, something from The Last of the Mohicans to make people cry. I was an unusual child.
  3. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live? Hmmmm…Scotland but I don’t know what the economy is like, I think I would just enjoy the climate.
  4. What’s you favourite musical? Probably Oklahoma but My Fair Lady and Chicago are close second choices.
  5. What was the last song that was stuck in your head? Don’t Stop Believing – it is literally, always on the radio.
  6. What was your favourite subject in school? Math, everything is perfect in math. There are no opinions, no grey areas, only 1 correct answer.
  7. How do you give back to your community? I work in the public sector, aren’t I always giving back? But really, I volunteer at the library, I read to children who are either differently abled or who just need tutoring, recently I have been participating in a heroine education outreach group to educate youth about addiction.
  8. What is one book that you’ve read recently that’s impacted you? Twilight – no, I’m kidding. Matterhorn by Karl Marlantes – that book is tragic and such a detailed account of the war. My dad served in Vietnam and while he rarely talked about it, I have always wanted to ask. After reading this book though, I guess I don’t want to know.
  9. If you were given the opportunity to start your own business right now, would you take it? If so, what would you do? If not, why not? NO! We have this miguided concept in our culture that the customer is always right and they aren’t, period. I once listened to a gal complain to a server that there was too much milk in her milkshake. I would have slapped it out of her hands and told her that the operative word is milk. Some people are bad customers, a good customer service interaction should be like building a relationship between two people – it requires 2 willing parties. Good customer service is not making someone take your shit because you are an entitled, rude person. I wouldn’t make any money because I would be telling people to piss off 😀
  10. What’s a piece of home decor that you’ve recently bought that you’re quite proud of? It’s not a recent purchase but look at this pouf, I love the lines and the colours. It doesn’t go with anything in the apartment but I am working on that.

  1. What is your dream vacation spot? Probably Switzerland in their snowiest season, I love snow. I love winter vacations too.

Again with the facts – there just isn’t a lot to tell 😀

  1. Last summer I had a migraine and should have known that I could not eat, but I did anyway and ate about 2 pounds of sushi. Then promptly yakked said sushi, I have not been able to eat it since! Which is sad, I really love(d) sushi.
  2. I am prone to migraines 😉
  3. I always thought that I was going to be a nun, I think that they are fascinating.
  4. I am allergic to chlorine, shower water gives me welts if the chlorine saturation is too high.
  5. I have two cats, they are torties – Neptune and Venus.
  6. My favourite food is tacos – but honestly, who doesn’t love tacos.
  7. It used to be spaghetti until – you guessed it, I yakked it and have not eaten it since.
  8. I was raised on goats’ milk, I have a dairy allergy. Maybe I should just list all of my allergies?
  9. I have an immune disorder (not AIDS, and not being rude, many people think that AIDS is the only immune disorder in  existence. And that’s OK, it isn’t up to other people to feel responsible for my issue) and am allergic to lots of things, I am a real treat to have over for dinner. Don’t invite me to dinner.
  10. Though I grew up in Colorado, I didn’t become an avid snowboarder until I moved away and think that Utah actually has more to offer 😛
  11. I judge people who chew with their mouths open, it incites rage in me.

sale (2)

If you would like to participate, here are 11 questions for you:

  1. What is your favourite food?
  2. If you could have any person, deceased or living over for dinner – who would it be?
  3. What would you serve them for dinner?
  4. Have you been to Disneyland? Or would you want to go if you have not?
  5. What is your favourite kids’ movie to watch as an adult?
  6. What would be the first thing that you would do if you won the lottery?
  7. Cosmo or Vogue (or your fav magazine)?
  8. Heels or flats?
  9. Running or yoga?
  10. Do you put syrup on your pancakes?
  11. What do you want to be when you grow up?

Thanks again to, Pamela for the nomination and thanks for stopping by ❤

The Cramm Award

More blogger recognition but I am almost caught up and that is a wonderful feeling! Cheila from Pink For Days nominated me for the Cramm Award – so thank you to Cheila! She reminds me of a Portuguese exchange student who lived in my dorms my freshman year of college, just the sweetest thing! Such a wonderful culture, anyway – rambling here!

The Rules (2)

This award was started by theCramm that I haven’t checked out before, but it looks neat.

3 Things About Me

  1. I of course, blog for myself but I also love that people read my stuff – who knew? I enjoy the community of bloggers that I feel like I am a part of, meeting other bloggers and reading their content. There is a real sense of camaraderie and I love getting on here each day, reading, commenting and following!
  2. Blog shopping! Yea, no lie – I tend to pick things up for the blog and it makes me feel so professional and stuffy which is silly but I really enjoy seeking out new trends and products, sharing new shops and all the fun stuff. But I set a budget early on so as not to get carried away which can happen quick 😉
  3. Creating new content keeps me motivated, challenging myself to take new and better photos which I still struggle with. Stepping outside of my comfort zone and sharing things out of the ordinary. I expanded my blog to include some fashion, lifestyle and even food – I didn’t want such a narrow focus and I should be better at adding variety. I am literally eating all of the time, I could have a whole food blog 😀

3 Things About Me (1)

  1. I hate it when people who I know in real life find my blog, it is just weird or is that weird to think it’s weird? Someone asked me what the point was – to which my response was – what is the point of anything? I mean, honestly – why does anyone do anything? Sometimes there isn’t a deeper meaning, I enjoy it – that is the point. I do have some close friends who diligently read my posts – they definitely motivate me.  I almost peed my pants when a friend mentioned that she picked up a BB cream that I raved about, I felt so important! And of course, anyone who reads my content on here. When I get on here, I feel like I am just having a conversation with friends and you feel that way too!!
  2. The BF, it was really on his suggestion that I started it anyway!
  3. My favourite, big time bloggers who are so posh and glamorous – freaking Zoella. PSA – some of her products are now available at ULTA, you know I am there. I’ve said it before that I have no end game here but it is fun to think about the what if’s.

3 Things About Me (2)

I’d like to say that I just want to be a good person but it seems like there is so much bad in the world that this now sounds so naive. But I really do just want to be a good person, a kind person, someone who works for the weak in hopes to make a change in someone else’s life. But so often it seems like there are more bad people than good people churned out every day. For now, not lose faith in man-kind and just be a good person.

3 Things About Me (3)

The challenge question(s) I was given; What do you do better than anyone else and what do you love about yourself? Hrrmmmmm…I have to say that I am a pretty good listener, I am patient and sometimes it is important to let other people talk and vent. I am tremendously good at it because I hate talking about myself 🙂 This isn’t really a ‘skill’ but ask anyone – I am pretty good at it. Aaannnddd…I guess I like my skin? Can I say that? Is that conceited, probably? I just take really good care of it and it’s nice, it has come a long way. Haha! Not for nothing though – my manicurist also says I have pretty skin so that makes me feel good 😀 So a not conceited thing that I like about myself is that I am kind, I wanted to be a nun for the longest time – sometimes I feel I should have still done that. I enjoy cussing too much though, there is something about a really well placed cuss word.

Again, I am a cheater and nominate anyone and everyone who wants to do this one! My challenge question for you: If you could be granted absolute knowledge of a higher being, would you want to know? Absolute knowledge being nothing short of probably being visited by said higher being. Be sure to tag me if you do this one!

That’s it – thanks or stopping by ❤
