30 Spooky Halloween Questions Tag!

I was flipping through the calendar and realized that Thanksgiving is next month, I mean, obviously but then I realized that Halloween will be here and gone in a week.  Sad face. In celebration or lament, I am doing another Halloween tag, this one is a little spookier and much longer – I apologize in advance 😛

Spiral ST Regular

The theme song from Halloween, it’s my year-round ringtone. John Carpenter actually wrote the music for many of his films which I think is incredible, not only did he create some of the most notable horror flicks, he wrote some pretty creepy music. Fun fact, when my phone goes off my cats flip out – it makes me wonder what it is about the tone or the pitch of the music that instills a sense of fear.

Spiral ST Regular

A person, no matter what monsters I can conjure up in my mind, mankind remains the only real monster.

Spiral ST Regular

Of course, nothing remotely cool even happened but it was released by Parker Brothers so as a discerning 12 year old, I figured that would be the case. Not to mention, I think we picked it up at Sams Club, so lame.

Spiral ST Regular

Ohhhh – but there are so many good ones, if I had to choose it would be Pinhead from Hellraiser. Is it odd that I thought that he was a complete fox – probably but sadly, the actor was not that good looking in real life. Must have been the pins and the pleather.

Spiral ST Regular

I think that my biggest fear is fire, like real life, your house could burn down, fire. I grew up in an area where we saw a lot of wildfires and it’s just something that is always in the back of my mind. I hate gas stoves, I have refused apartments based on them having gas stoves/gas heat – a few years back though I did have one because everything else about the place was perfect. We child-proofed the knobs because, #cats but one day I got out of the shower and 2 knobs were on – full blast just spewing gas everywhere. I don’t know if I was creeped because I didn’t know how they had been turned on or if it was just my innate fear of fire but I freaked out. I took all of the knobs completely off the stove, they had to be put back on each time that we used it.

Spiral ST Regular

Pffft, of course. No question and I actually have couple in mind, more on this later.

Spiral ST Regular

A little, I think that in today’s society with all of the technology and knowledge that it makes it much harder to be truly superstitious. If someone gets sick, we know that it isn’t witches or demons – it’s just the plague.

Spiral ST Regular

No…? Not that I have ever noticed, usually if I see something then it is actually there.

Spiral ST Regular

Are skin-walkers an urban legend? I first heard about them on a trip to a volleyball game, we crossed through the Navajo reservation and our coach who was Southern Ute told us about them. They are witches that embody animals, terrifying. I truly believe that they could exist though, there’s some old magic on those reservations – I don’t care what anyone says.

Spiral ST Regular

Depends, I abhor the Saw movies and think that they are needlessly gory but I like slasher, cheesecake flicks and they don’t bother me. I do enjoy a good thriller though too.

Spiral ST Regular

Like spirit worlds? Um, yes – see skin-walkers.

Spiral ST Regular

Um, no. I mean, who wasn’t tempted after seeing The Craft but no.

Spiral ST Regular

I am pretty good at distinguishing between the threat of real danger and just being hysterical, I would say no.

Spiral ST Regular

Of course and again, nothing remotely cool happened.

Spiral ST Regular

Absolutely. Perhaps not in an overtly religious, Christian way but yes.

Spiral ST Regular Spiral ST Regular

Leave – see, this is the fatal mistake that so many people make in slasher flicks. You don’t go to investigate, moron – especially if you have to go down into a basement or up into an attic. Just get outside, ask questions later.

Spiral ST Regular

Halloween, I would survive – the guy can’t even run, he just walks at you. Not even speed walking, like strolling – how did he manage to kill like two dozen people?

Spiral ST RegularSpiral ST Regular

Winifred Sanderson from Hocus Pocus, I have been working on that costume for nearly a lifetime – might as well wear it.

Spiral ST Regular

Been there, done that and it wasn’t actually that scary. I grew up in a small town, the cemetery was right on the way to school but it wasn’t a creepy place. I think that it depends on the cemetery, some are so new and organized – would I go to a graveyard in Southern Louisiana at night? Absolutely not.

Spiral ST Regular

Science. I can’t get into the zombie thing – it just isn’t going to happen, we will see an Ebola or smallpox apocalypse before zombies.

Spiral ST Regular

I do enjoy a good masque but college ruined Halloween parties for me, so probably trick-r-treating.

Spiral ST Regular

Spiral ST Regular

Spiral ST Regular

The final girl but only because I was also the killer – plot twist. But in all honesty, we all saw it coming. Ree, ree, ree, ree!

Spiral ST Regular

Spiral ST Regular

No – does this even work? Some things you just can’t forget no matter how much Barney you watch.

Spiral ST Regular

Spiral ST Regular

Spiral ST Regular

I could be yelling or I could be sleeping. I get so irritated when a character (usually a girl) will be running from the villain and then biffs it over seemingly nothing. All you had to do was run and not fall, moron. That really incenses me and I feel like every director everywhere just assumes that females are prone to tripping over nothing. Pffft. At least we can run, Michael.

Spiral ST Regular

I don’t like scaring people. I am at that person who would do it one time and cause someone to have a heart issue. We do little office pranks but they are genuinely funny, nobody is actually scared. That being said, I am not easily scared – I am the person who you call in an emergency because I am not going to get hysterical.

Spiral ST Regular

The Shining, if you think that the movie is scary – the book is ten times more terrifying. There are so many details about the hotel and the labyrinth that weren’t included in the movie that add so much to the atmosphere.

Spiral ST Regular

I was 11 when I watched Salem’s Lot, that was the benefit of having older brothers and sisters who could do things like drive to get contraband books and movies. It was also used later for blackmail fodder but it was worth it.

Spiral ST Regular

An elephant, is the first one that I can recall…?

Spiral ST Regular

Ms. Frizzle, a repeat in my collection.

Spiral ST Regular

We already have our torties, they have black and orange markings – they are the perfect Halloween-esque cats. Also, total party poopers because they refuse to wear the witch hats that I purchased for them.

If you made it this far, I am impressed 😀 As always, I would so enjoy reading your responses to these questions so be sure to tag me if you do this one!

31 Nights of Horror – The Exorcist

Have you been sleeping too much? Need something to keep you up at night? This is the movie for you. This movie, what a classic. The Exorcist is about a young girl, Regan who lives with her starlet mother, Chris who is just wrapping up her most recent film. Regan starts to exhibit strange and violent behaviour which leads to a whole host of medical testing that never seem to pinpoint what is the matter with her. The medical testing bits are actually harder for me to watch than the body horror, there is this scene where a doctor is putting an IV in her neck and blood is squirting everywhere – gag. Anyway, Regan starts to say and do wildly bizarre things including peeing on the floor and spewing vulgarities. One evening, a friend of Chris’s is left to babysit Regan and mysteriously falls to his death and it is at this point that Chris starts to wonder about pursuing other avenues of treatment for her disturbed daughter.

Enter Father Damien Karras, who is probably the saddest excuse for a priest that I have even seen. He recently lost his ailing mother and the man’s spirit is totally defeated, he is in no shape to be performing an exorcism. He calls on Father Lankester Merrin to lead the exorcism, a super frail priest with medical ailments who is also in no shape to be vanquishing demons. The two attempt to cast the demon Pazuzu out of Regan which becomes a long, vulgar, arduous process. Pazuzu bests Merrin and Karras, realizing that he cannot defeat the demon, invites it to possess him instead and ultimately perishes as well.

The-Exorcist-74

In the final scene, we see a seemingly blissful Regan and frazzled Chris departing Georgetown. This movie received a lot of criticism, it is pretty vulgar and there are parts of it that are very hard to watch. That being said, I have watched a couple of documentaries that paint the making of the film to be just as disturbing as the film itself. If you haven’t seen this film, it is worth a watch in your lifetime if only to see what every other exorcism film borrows from. If you can see it in theater, I would definitely recommend!

Sephora Gift Set Wishlist

Apparently, Violet Voss is coming to Sephora and I am a little bummed about it. I guess this does make the brand more accessible but in all honesty, they have such hard time keeping items in stock on their own site – how are they going to stock another retailer? Also, Sephora kinda’ sucks – I would much rather keep purchasing products directly from Violet Voss and I will but this partnership doesn’t make a lot of sense to me.

Even though Sephora really does mostly suck, they have some amazing gift sets. I have already said that gift sets are either a great introduction to the a brand or a complete waste, I am hoping that these will be the former!

I recently got to try a couple of items from Amore Pacific and they were amazing, they are also ridiculously expensive. I have been using The Essential Creme Fluid as my daytime moisturizer and I love it, this set includes a full-size of their fluid and deluxe samples of their Treatment Enzyme Peel and Moisture Bound face mist. The Green Tea Me Gorgeous trio retails at $108 which is a steal given the fact that the fluid itself retails for $98.

They also released a comprehensive collection of samples in their Essentials Collection, this set includes 6 products and retails for $65, my only concern is that the sample sizes will be itty-bitty at this price point and might not be as good of a sampling of the brand.

…and if you have not guessed by now, I am complete skincare junkie 😀 Next, is this Coco Rose Luxe Hydration Trio from Herbivore. You get to sample their 3 signature rose products for $39.

Farmacy has a very lovely Honey Harvest Kit that includes a full-sized face cream and two additional samples for $45.

This next set are already products that I have used and enjoyed, the Bite Beauty Agave Kisses Set includes their agave lip scrub, mask and balm for $20.

BITE

For some actual makeup, I want this little holiday duo from Dior – you get a full-size mascara and an eye-shadow compact for $29.50 which is basically like getting the shadows for free!

DIOR

Just like 10 kits and 100’s of minis, I think that is reasonable 😉 What are your thoughts on the sample kits, worth it or no?

31 Nights of Horror – Constantine

If Keanu Reeves is performing exorcisms then sign me up for demonic possession. The premise of this film is that God and Lucifer have a wager on the souls of mankind and that there are hybrid demonic and angelic beings on Earth who can influence the deal. There are also human beings who can see these beings for what they really are. The movie begins somewhere in Mexico, two men are digging through some rubble and one of them discovers the Spear of Destiny – a holy relic, supposedly the spear that pierced Christ’s lung while he lay on the cross. Manuel becomes possessed and starts a journey to the United States. We meet John Constantine while performing an exorcism on a girl possessed by a soldier demon trying to come to Earth, this isn’t allowed under the rules of the wager and he thinks that something awry.

We then meet Detective Angela Dodson (Rachel Weisz), her twin sister is in a psychiatric ward and has just committed suicide. Angela is convinced that her sister did not commit suicide being a devout Catholic and is appealing to a priest to allow her to have a Christian burial when she runs into Constantine who is seeking help from the angel Gabriel. Gabriel being played by Tilda Swinton is so perfect to me, the wings, the hair, the suit – stunning. Angela and Constantine embark on a battle to stop the demons from breaking the rules of the wager. In doing so, they discover that Mammon (son of Lucifer) is trying to overthrow his father and take mankind for himself with the help of Gabriel who resents mankind for their abuse of God’s infinite love. They battle half-breeds, demons and Lucifer himself but ultimately restore the balance.

I saw this film on the big screen, the scene depicting Hell literally shocked me. Never had I seen fire and brimstone so terrifyingly depicted, and I was raised Catholic so I know a thing or two about brimstone. The concept fascinates me, that half-angels and half-demons were put on Earth to up the ante on a bet between God and Lucifer. I think that is actually more terrifying to me than the idea of be good, go to Heaven or be bad, go to Hell. My favourite scenes are when the half-breeds reveal themselves, either demon or angel they are mesmerizing. This is definitely a favourite movie that I will watch at any time of year.

Fit Me or Flop?

I love it when you find something at the drugstore that is so crazy amazing that it makes you question why you ever spend more than 10 bucks on any product. I picked up a few of the Maybelline Fit Me products in my New at the Drugstore Haul and am happy to report that they are amazing. The two items that I have today are the Matte & Poreless Foundation in 105 and the Loose Finishing Powder in 05. Both shades are perfect for my fair skin with pink undertones but the line does offer quite a range of shades.

1022171008.jpg

The Matte & Poreless Foundation ($5.94/ounce) is recommended for normal to oily skin, I have combination skin that tends to be dry but it still worked really well for me. The consistency of the foundation is more on the runny side which surprised me but it applies evenly, is buildable and dries down to a demi-matte. I have been skipping primer with this product as it claims to have a pore minimizing effect and it looked great without primer, I didn’t notice any bunching or clinging – this product looked and felt like a second skin. This is a really beautiful foundation, the one con is that I wish it had a pump!

1022171009.jpg

Now for the Loose Finishing Powder ($5.94/20 grams), the 05 shade does have a hint of color but not so much that it changed the shade of the foundation but did offer just a touch more coverage. This powder made my skin look like buttah – any visible pores that the foundation didn’t take care of were immediately blurred. It didn’t crack or break up over the day, my face stayed matte and intact. Definitely like an 11/10 for both products, fantastic quality at a price that makes them accessible to just about everyone.

31 Nights of Horror – Treehouse of Horror

I am cheating with this one a little but I watch these every year, they are by far some of my favourite episodes from the series. Each year the creators of The Simpsons write a Treehouse of Horror Episode to air near Halloween, there are usually 3 tales in each episode and they are hysterical, usually they are an alliteration to a real horror movie. Here are some of the best:

Treehouse of Horror IV – This includes, The Devil and Homer Simpson: Homer sells his soul to the devil for a doughnut. Best part, Ned Flanders is the devil – un-prediddly-ictable. Homer is tried before the court of the damned, Benedict Arnold, Lizzie Borden, Richard Nixon, John Wilkes Booth, Blackbeard the Pirate, John Dillinger and the starting line up of the 1976 Philadelphia Flyers. Har, har! The two other short stories included are, Terror at 5 1/2 Feet and Bart Simpson’s Dracula.

Treehouse of Horror V – The three shorts in this one are; The Shinning, Time & Punishment and Nightmare Cafeteria. They spoof The Shining – need I say more? Groundskeeper Willie telling Bart to use the shinning in that Scottish accent – hilarious.

Treehouse of Horror IX – Hell Toupee, Terror of Tiny Toon and Starship Poopers. Homer receives a hair transplant, the hair belonged to Snake – before he dies he vows to kill the witnesses who sent him to the chair. The hair possesses Homer and he starts picking off the people named by Snake to murder. Starship Poopers is also pretty good, we find out that Maggie is the product of a one night stand with an alien.

Treehouse of Horror XII – Hex & The City, House of Whacks and Wiz Kids. They spoof Thinner in Hex & The City and Wiz Kids is a Harry Potter parody – genius.

Not only are the parodies complete genius, some of the celebrity voice talent they get to guest star are classic horror film actors/actresses. I also love the Marge disclaimer at the start of the episode, she warns the audience of the grisly nature of the show. I loved tuning into these when I was a kid and it is always fun to revisit.

Sample Saturday – OUAI

I have a bit of a rant this morning, about something completely lame – it makes me feel lame even talking about it but that should make the people who do it feel even more lame. I am talking about following to unfollow – it’s tacky and completely negates the social aspect of social media. If it’s just a numbers game, why even waste time following people, determining when they follow back and then unfollowing…? Why not just buy followers at that point? Seems way easier, in my opinion. I didn’t even know this was a thing but now that I know that this happens, it totally sucks the fun out of Instagram, it just seems like a bunch of wasted time and energy. I hope that those who follow my content do so because they enjoy it.

1021171108

Anyway, I have my hair appointment scheduled and am trying to blast through some hair care samples as I won’t be obsessively deep-conditioning my hair any longer. I will still use hair masks but not as often. I tried out this OUAI Rose Hair & Body Oil this week, I have received samples from this brand a couple of times and mostly enjoyed the products. This hair oil is silicone-free, claims to lock in moisture and can be used on the hair and body. This one was a little meh, I prefer dry oils for my hair and this one was fairly heavy. It smells really nice but made my hair feel way too oily and didn’t absorb, I couldn’t wear this during the day as it would probably just coat the sides of my face in oil. It didn’t even work well as a body oil because it wouldn’t absorb, I tried using this as a deep moisturizing treatment over-night and woke up to pools of oil on my skin and super greasy hair which was unpleasant. This might be great if you have incredibly dry skin but it is not for me. This retails at $32 for 3 ounces and can be found at Sephora.
