The Last Time I Lied: A Review

Spoilers ahead! I did it, I blazed through my BOTM pick for the month and I am almost a little bummed about it because they haven’t had much of an interesting selection these past few months. I chose The Last Time I Lied by Riley Sager, I mostly liked his first book under this pseudonym, Final Girls and did a review on it here if you are interested! His second offering is a departure from the cheesecake horror genre which surprised me since the setting is at a summer camp a la Camp Crystal Lake and I was expecting somebody to get slashed. Emma Davis finds herself back at Camp Nightingale…

Currently Coveting – Beauty Advent Calendars

My favourite thing to watch nearing the holidays on YouTube is all of the beauty advent calendar un-boxings, I will literally just drink my morning coffee and binge watch un-boxings because this isn’t something that we do in the states. You will see chocolate or little toy ones but these beauty ones are on a whole other level. Sadly, most are already sold out because they were released in October which makes no sense. Who is thinking about advent calendars in October!? Well, the people who managed to snag them but I mean – who else? Honestly. Most of these are sold out or weren’t ever available in the US…

First Impression Friday – New Hair!

This isn’t a real first impression because I got my hair cut last week but it is still new to me. A little back story, recently my stylist and I parted ways – the same stylist had been cutting my hair for almost 6 years. He worked at one of those spa-lon establishments, I was paying over $100 for a haircut (before tip) and usually not even a haircut, a trim at most. He was promoted to a master stylist in the last couple of years which was great for him but at that point the cost of my services went up and in my opinion, his customer service dipped. I…

First Impression Friday – Fenty Beauty

What haven’t you heard about this brand, probably nothing? Do I have any new insights to share, probably not. Honestly,  I don’t often go in for the celebrity beauty brands – I prefer established brands with a reputation for quality. I appreciate that this brand didn’t release a ton of random products all at once, it was a curated collection of face products followed by a holiday collection. I also appreciate that the prices are not completely outrageous, they are on-par with high-end beauty brands. Some of these newer brands come out with products that can be quite spendy given the fact that they have no track record to back…

    Halloween Tag!

Like I needed another reminder that the internet is a dangerous, dangerous place – I was vegging in front of the computer last night and watched this compilation of people who had been turned into memes and how it basically ruined their lives. I ignorantly thought that the people who were the subject of the meme had willingly provided their image – not the case. In several for instances, the person’s image had been borrowed (stolen) by a random person from their Facebook, Myspace, etc and used for a meme. I just never thought that was the case, maybe because I use a lot of self-deprecating humor and would probably turn…

    Yes, Please Palette First Impressions!

UPDATE: After struggling for the last 45 minutes to make this work – it’s a dud. This is a perfect example of why ya’ just cannot trust swatches. The shadows went on OK but there was quite a lot of fall out and kick-up, the shadows were actually fading while I was applying them – this has never happened! I primed one eye with Shape Tape and one with Primer Potion, both sides were patchy and muddy 🙁 Total bummer. I will give it another whirl with different brushes but it seems like a bust! Yup – I m that person who finally gets something on the 100th restock and…

    Sample Saturday – Living Proof

Today’s sample came in my August Birchbox, it is the Living Proof Restore Mask Treatment. This was a great sample size and I was able to get 3 uses out of it, I have shoulder length hair. My hair isn’t particularly dry but it is coarse and wavy, and I use masks frequently to keep it from getting frizzy. Living Proof products are sulfate, paraben and silicon free and pretty expensive in my opinion. I have used a few of their products before and wasn’t blown away by their performance, there are more affordable brands that are formulated with very good ingredients. Anyway, this mask claims to reduce damage from styling…

    Halloween Decor – Office Edition

I accidentally downloaded a Young Adult novel that Audible has in the Thriller/Mystery section and no shame – it is so good. I was raving about it to a friend who says, Isn’t that teen fiction? My friends have very discerning taste in literature apparently and don’t read teen fiction 😛 I wanted to do a beauty post this morning, I feel like I haven’t swatched anything in a hot minute but I ran out of daylight for photos last night. I thought that I would share my Halloween office decor – that went up only a couple of days before October 1st 😀 I didn’t decorate last year because I was new…

31 Nights of Horror – The Shining

I get so excited going through my stack of movies that I don’t know what to watch next! Tonight’s film is the 1980, Stanley Kubrick adaptation of Stephen King’s The Shining. This is another one where the book is absolutely terrifying and this film is only loosely based on the book, in my opinion. Fun fact, I have stayed at The Stanley (Hotel) in Estes Park, Colorado where much of the filming was done – it was my macabre desire as child to be wed there but this has not panned out yet. Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson), his wife Wendy (Shelley Duvall) and their young son Danny arrive at Overlook Hotel…

    Trying On: The Loaded Bolds

If there is one product that I cannot resist at the drugstore, it is most definitely lipstick. The very first makeup item that I owned was a CoverGirl tinted, lipstick. I am using lipstick loosely, it was really like a balm and I cannot find the product on their site – they might not make it anymore! It had that drugstore lipstick scent that smells a little like crayons and something else that I can’t quite describe. The scent of drugstore lipstick takes me back to being 13, walking with my grandmother through the makeup aisles and picking out this bright pink, completely unflattering lipstick. Sure, there is something luxurious and sophisticated…
