    Friday Favorites

Another Friday, another round-up of tidbits from around the web. Enjoy! I never knew that the fashion industry was so salacious, it is hard to see past the glitz and wonder what is happening behind the scenes. I will have to read this book to find out more, I guess it shouldn’t come as any surprise that someone is being exploited in such an opulent industry. I actually read something similar many years ago and always laugh at the poor fools frantically pushing the ‘Walk’ buttons 😀 My question is though, why waste the money to install buttons that are just for show? Seems silly and very American. Also, what…

Top Ten Tuesday – Back to School Flicks

Driving to work today, I saw many a kid standing on the corner looking like someone had snatched their youth. Then, traffic was bumper to bumper and I realized that today was the first day back to school. Woot, woot. Which doesn’t really impact me but now that the kids are back in school maybe there will be less vandalism in the parks, just sayin’. But honestly, what is the point of burning down a port-a-potty?! Anyway, if you, like me do not have to go to bed early because you are in the prime of your adulthood – here are some movies to enjoy on this first day back…

    Friday Favourites

It’s Friday, I cannot wait to go home and go to sleep for like 10 hours. I was having a pedicure with a friend and was telling her how exhausted I was for seemingly no reason, I don’t have a lot of work stress, I don’t have any kids, I don’t really take care of anyone, I literally have no reason to be tired. She says; Well – Mercury is in retrograde and you’re so sensitive. We aren’t friends anymore. Not really but I don’t get the whole zodiac/horoscope/moon phase thing (or if any of those are related, if not, please excuse my ignorance) – I have nothing against it,…

    What I’m Reading

Mother Nature has blessed us with an anomaly in the middle of this heat wave, it’s been rainy and 60 degrees which is perfect reading weather. I mean, I read in any kind of weather but some days I just feel obligated to come home, light some candles and read a book. I have a few books going at the moment, I tend to read different books at work than I do at home so I usually have a couple going simultaneously – does anyone else do this? A total random find, I picked up this adult horror novel by the one and only RL Stine a few weeks ago…

Top Ten Tuesday – Television Shows Based on Books

My book list is getting a little light and since I burn through books so quickly, I have been trying to find some series to get into that I can enjoy for a while. I was surprised to see some popular television shows that were actually books while doing my research. I did know about some of these but some of them were a pleasant surprise! I have never seen a single episode of True Blood but this is the series that the show was loosely based on. The reviews are all over the place on this series but it could be a fun romp. I mean, vampires…so… I tried…

    Dare Me: A Review

Have you ever read a book that left you wondering what the heck it was about and what the point of all that was? That is pretty much how I was left feeling after finishing Megan Abbott’s cheerleader noir (her words, not mine) Dare Me. I have to admit that I am generally a little put off by novels that are about teenagers because they seem wildly unrealistic and overly-salacious, this was no exception. The focus of the story is mainly the bizarre relationship between a cheerleading coach and her squad. Addy, apparently the team lieutenant and Beth, the captain find themselves in a weird friend/enemy triangle with the new…

Top Ten Tuesday – MTV When it Was Cool

It’s funny that the only channel that I wanted to watch as a kid, and couldn’t was MTV. Now that I can watch whatever I want with impunity, I never watch it until the other night when I clicked it on and thought, What the shit is this?! What happened to MTV?! All of the reality TV shows were becoming popular at the end of my youth (aside from Real World) and I recall watching MTV for actual music programming or mature cartoons, I think they need to bring some of these classics back. Admittedly, I was a bit young for the original series but did tune in religiously for…

The Last Time I Lied: A Review

Spoilers ahead! I did it, I blazed through my BOTM pick for the month and I am almost a little bummed about it because they haven’t had much of an interesting selection these past few months. I chose The Last Time I Lied by Riley Sager, I mostly liked his first book under this pseudonym, Final Girls and did a review on it here if you are interested! His second offering is a departure from the cheesecake horror genre which surprised me since the setting is at a summer camp a la Camp Crystal Lake and I was expecting somebody to get slashed. Emma Davis finds herself back at Camp Nightingale…

    Friday Favourites

Another Friday, another hot weekend ahead. I have no idea what I am doing this weekend, probably anything that can be done inside. First on the agenda is to get through my new BOTM book whose author is mired in a bit of drama at the moment. Riley Sager wrote a decent first thriller with Final Girls and I am just about to start The Last Time I Lied that has the same cabin in the woods thriller vibe. Apparently, Riley is a pen name for Todd Ritter but I guess I never think of an author’s gender when it comes to fiction books. Call it bizarre, call it idiotic,…

    Friday Favourites

It’s Friday, thank goodness – if there is anything that I love about the 9-5, it is definitely weekends off. I also had more fun working retail so I guess that there are trade offs but I am ready for the weekend. Friday Favourites are going to be posts where I round up some articles, recipes and other tidbits from around the web that I found particularly enjoyable or thought-provoking, let’s get started! This article on the origin of high-heels didn’t surprise me because I grew up with a mom who wore cowboy boots as fancy dress and when you think about it, they were originally created for cowboys! I…
