    Confessions of a Beauty Junkie

I just finished a documentary about the Catholic Church and had a really ranty post planned but I think that I will save that for another day. Serious posts take more time and often more energy to crank out than the more fun ones so we’ll keep it fun tonight. As a self-proclaimed beauty junkie and part-time beauty blogger, I’d like my readers to think that I live in this technicolor world of whimsy but often times it’s just kind of a hectic mess behind the scenes with lots of laying with my face in the couch and talking to my cats. You are presented with the more polished version…

    Julianne’s Red

The perfect, red lipstick – what an elusive thing it is. L’Oreal released a range of pinks, nudes and reds formulated after some of Hollywood’s loveliest lips and their signature shades. I picked up a few from the range because I have a problem needed a red lipstick and thought that this would be my penguin. The package is lovely, it is black matte with gold detail and has Julianne’s signature stamped on it – it feels like it cost more than 5 bucks. I chose Julianne’s Red because Julianne Moore is also a ginger and figured that this would work with my skin tone. At first glance, this lipstick is very tomato-y…

    Yes, Please Palette First Impressions!

UPDATE: After struggling for the last 45 minutes to make this work – it’s a dud. This is a perfect example of why ya’ just cannot trust swatches. The shadows went on OK but there was quite a lot of fall out and kick-up, the shadows were actually fading while I was applying them – this has never happened! I primed one eye with Shape Tape and one with Primer Potion, both sides were patchy and muddy 🙁 Total bummer. I will give it another whirl with different brushes but it seems like a bust! Yup – I m that person who finally gets something on the 100th restock and…

    Wednesday Reveal – September Birchbox

A new day, 100 new makeup releases. Honestly, where do these brands find the time!? I think the new Fenty Beauty line looks stunning and Rihanna is that perfect mash-up of chic yet cool. I am hesitant to try anything as reviews have been so all over the place though. The line is owned by Kendo Brands which interestingly enough also owns KVD Beauty and Marc Jacobs – I never would have guessed that these two brands share a parent company. I also like both of these brands, I am definitely curious about the new addition to their line up. There are a few Sephora stores in my area that carry the line, I might…

First Impression Friday – Subculture Palette

I like the First Impression Friday thing and I am sticking with it, I will pepper in some Product of the Week posts when I have them but this gives me a little variety! The moment we have all been waiting for is upon, well the moment that I have been waiting for – I have the ABH Subculture palette in my hot, little hands. This palette has not been well-loved on social media, this is the double-edged sword of having so much information at our fingertips, I have been absolutely dreading the arrival of this palette. Modern Renaissance has been one of the best palettes that I have ever used – the pigmentation,…

A Medley of Minis – Sephora Rewards

I ate Cool Cauliflower for lunch, betcha’ didn’t know that cauliflower could be cool 😀 It is just regular cauliflower that is dyed with dyes from other veggies; there were orange, purple and yellow pieces. I think it is supposed to be marketed to kids but I thought it was cool, I was a lame little kid – I am a proud, lame adult. I don’t have an August sub-box yet but I did cash is some points at Sephora recently on a few new rewards. It’s like I curated my own sample box – they have some good 100 point rewards if you have points that you have been…

Wednesday Reveal – July Sephora Play!

My Subculture palette is in the mail and, you guys, the reviews for this palette are so bad! It makes me sad, I have been busting out my Modern Renaissance for the past week just to get in the mood and I want to love it! I think that the Modern Renaissance palette is pretty powdery and the replacement palette that I purchased a while back is even more powdery than the one that I purchased at the first release. I can still use it though and the pigment is fabulous, so I hope that is the case with Subculture. I have read some reviews that say to just get Androgyny but I really struggle using Beauty Killer, those…

Sample Saturday – Living Proof Dry Shampoo

Why is it that only 55+ folks get special apartment buildings and that this isn’t somehow considered discrimination? Why aren’t there apartment buildings for 30 year old, 9-5’ers who have their shit together and don’t want to put up with juvenile bullshit? The BF and I lived in a garden level duplex that we really loved, it was an actual duplex – not a house that was cut up into one like you see all over Minneapolis and in my opinion should be illegal. We got new neighbors at some point and it wasn’t great so we moved. We decided that we didn’t want to live under other people again…

    Three Foundations Before Fall

You guys, my apartment is so clean – I invite you to eat off of any surface. Seriously, come on over 😛 I mean, it is usually clean – the BF calls me the Hatchet Maid if that’s any indication of my cleanliness but it feels especially clean at the moment. I was in this cleaning/decorating mode – I ordered a new bookcase and I feel like it’s a little too contemporary. I dunno, one minute I think that I want something different – only to regret it immediately. Maybe it will just take some getting used to, it took me half my lifetime and 45 minutes just to pick…

    Wednesday Reveal – July BoxyCharm

I just finished listening to a book about serial killers and how they are generally charismatic, seemingly normal people who wouldn’t ever be suspected of serial killing. This disturbs me and yet I am fascinated by serial killers – why, I don’t get it. They are terrible people and yet they are household names – well some of them are anyway but I know very few victims. It is bizarre to me that they aren’t just convicted and disappear, they live on through books, movies, documentaries – what is this fascination that we have with something so monstrous? Good news though, the neighbors in back of me who were digging…
